Silverdale Range

Post by GojiraSteve » 28 Nov 2019, 7:17 pm

Does anyone know offhand if Silverdale will let you shoot 9.3x62?

I'm tossing up between that cal and a 338WM for my next purchase. 338 is absolutely off the list (more accuarately ON the banned list) at Silverdale. but if the 9.3 comes in under the energy restriction rules that might make the decision for me.

Cheers in advance

Cheers Bill

Yeah, St Marys will, but 50m is barely any use, even for sighting in.

These range templates are friggin ridiculous. It seems like its just a way to usher in a similar regime to what they have in the UK. There they wont issue a permit/licence for even a .308 unless you can prove you have landholder (of a certain size holding) permission, or a local range that permits the calibre. And much like here theres an ever decreasing number of ranges excluding an ever increasing list of cartridges.

How on earth a range, built in a quarry, at the bottom of a mountain, with a steel baffle 12 inches over the shooting line gets calibre restriction is beyond me.

Once upon a time the FAR inspector of ranges was a person able to exercise judgement based on real world knowledge and experience.
These days it is career oriented cops hungry for achievements in support of their next promotion.
Common sense??
I suppose though Silverdale is a special case in that it attracts a proportion of idiots and evidence of projectile damage over and beyond the backstop hasn't helped.
