Phone Pic Hazards?

Is there a risk associated with posting phone pics on the web?
I seem to recall that you can be identified indirectly and suffer adverse consequences.
Is this a fact?

Some people will have GPS or GIS same thing turned on so your position may be embedded with the photo. That could be compromising if you were somewhere you shouldn't have been.

Yes, if you are doing something illegal. Facial recognition AI technology, geotagging, and software that can track the photo from where it was uploaded are all at the governments disposal. How diligently they use it is anyones guess.

Watch some ted talks on AI and the processing power it has of surveilance data. Prepare to become peranoid.

Yep, just be aware that your pics (not only from your phone) taken at a newly discovered paradise hunting spot or fishing hole can lead
others to that very spot.

Just open em in photoshop or programme like then save it as an eps or similar it wouldn't have any geo crap then I'm sure.

I believe facecrap strip all geotagging etc from every picture uploaded

If you look at the properties it should indicate if location is recorded. Unless there is other hidden info.

For iPhone users this will may explain the mysterious rotation matter, where some browsers show it "correctly" while others don't understand the rotation metadata. To avoid this problem just slightly crop your photo before uploading it. From what I can tell the cropping strips the rotation metadata and "re-writes" all the photos pixels in the new orientation.

For any late model android phone, open the Camera and navigate to Settings. There will be an option in there somewhere for Location Tagging. Thats the one you want to ensure is unchecked, or disabled, so that the coordinates are not stored in the photo's metadata.
