Dunno who caught this in the SSAA magazine.

Leupold have an ad at the moment and the line at the top is "No need to buy expensive European glass ever again!"

I thought cool, a new Leupold line at a good price.

Not expensive... A 2-12x42 VX-6 is $1,500! So much for that.

Am I the only one that thinks $1,500 is expensive? :?

LOL no you are not, it's become almost a rule of thumb among shooters that glass needs to almost price match the firearm. Simply living in Australia doubles the price of a firearm anyway.

"Am I the only one that thinks $1,500 is expensive? :?"

no...and yes

i think the point is the VX6 is being marketed to shooters who would be buying a Swaro Z5 or Z6, Leica ERi and Zeiss Victory in the $2000-$3000 price range

To a lot of hunters a dropping a couple of grand on glass is not a big deal, particularly if it's going on a 3-4 grand rifle and you don't have a safe full of junk guns like a lot of us

Maybe i should change that to "guns not garnished with exhibition grade walnut"

What i mean is off the shelf sporting guns which by some standards are "junk" but to most of us they're our bread and butter

 mate in my safe there's a K98 Israeli Mauser, a CZ527, a Sterling mod 14, a weatherby Mkxxii, a tikka stainless varmint , a tikka stainless hunter fluted, a Hart BR gun, a Turkish shotgun, an Italian shotgun and a German pistol.

And only half of those are "junk" guns

The laminated stock on the Mauser is definitely exhibition grade plywood and the "timber" on the sterling is, well probably some kind of wood. ;)

I like to tread a line between nice to look at but won't make me have a mental breakdown if it gets scratched

In my mind "junk" only classifies as a Tikka in 7mm 08...

Bring it! Hahahah

Burst out Laughing

And Sorry Chronos, I was having a dig. Im the same way as Combat_Wombat , except even on a laminated stock I cry if it gets scratched. I have a 20 year old Rossi lever in 357 mag, that has not got a scratch on the wood not a dent nothing ... And I hate myself for it, if that makes sense ??

Is the Sterling mod 14 for sale? I would like to up grade. ;)

I was relieved of mine (X father in-laws) in the 96 buy back.

nah mate, you wouldn't want it anyway LOL it's had 1 1/2" cut off the butt and 4" cut from the barrel to make it a carbine for my wife. i bought it for her to use when she got her licence and it was too front heavy for her to shoot comfortably standing. interestingly she had 15 odd shots out of it at bowral pistol club at their rimfire metallic silhouette animals and nailed 9 out of 15 at three distances. the short of it is i think the shorter barrel has made it more accurate because my best with it before the carbine-ising was 17 out of 40. couldn't be that she's a better shot

wish she'd take me up on the challenge and shoot centerfire silhouette with my tikka varmint 7-08. let's see her hold that rifle up for 40 rounds

Don't you guys know you let her shoot good groups when you're trying to get into shooting , then from that time on you just give her random ammo from the bottom of the ammo box and keep the good handloads for yourself
