Bedding and Re Floating

So I just finished bedding and re floating the new Tikka.
This one has the "steel" recoil lug as opposed to those with Aluminium.
You'd think that after realizing the aluminium recoil lugs shortcomings and replacing with steel,,, that the factory would do a decent job of it.

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr,,, no.

The fit of the steel lug in the stock,,,
has the kind of tolerances that a blind man could reverse a six wheel drive army truck through without touching the sides.

Result being it had slop like you'd expect in a whore that worked in the abbatoirs.

A decent bedding and re floating has all that now sewn up in a nice tight fitting where it needs it.
Was gonna do some testing, but too windy, so maybe tomorrow.

Interesting - some pics would have been good for those of us not overly familiar with the process...I thought TIKKA did improve their steel lug tolerance with latest offerings, but clearly not.

Sorry Tassie,, a straight forward simple task of bedding and floating,,,, pics never entered my mind.
I just did it.
And no,,,, I'm not gonna gouge it all out, start again, and do step by step pics.

Maybe next time.
I've done two in the last two months.

Oh, and the fit up of the lug pre bedding was,,,,,,,,,,,
With the lug fully seated in the stock I could sit the tip of my index finger on top of the lug and it flopped back and forth 4 mm

Tass tiger. Have you ever looked inside the guts of your sauer100 ? Just wondering if I should have mine done. I did a tiny bit of research and found they don’t have a conventional recoil lug. It’s not something I would attempt myself. I imagine that if they have fitted it reasonably it’s probably not good to touch. I know jack all about bedding , sounds like something mainly for situations where action is sloppy fit to stock

Not much to show really,, just a simple and basic job for a small caliber with next to no recoil.
This one gave me 1.75 mm free float along the fore end, and the obligatory snug fit where needed.
Because it is only a light caliber I didn't bother doing the full length of the action that I normally do on decent kickers.
The recoil lug is now rock solid, and ain't going anywhere.
Still haven't got around to testing it.

Well I'm pretty happy,,,,,,,,,, (2-45am)
Just got back after going for a short drive to an abandoned homestead.
There are/were a few bunnies that live near it.

Using the thermal only.

First test shots out of the .223 since the bedding and re floating,,,,
and the trigger is now much better, although I have a YoDave spring on the way. (Thanks Mate)

Two bunnies = Two shots = Two deconstructed bunnies.

1st one was just on 75 mtrs, and second one was way out and just a fuzzy blob meandering about as bunnies do,, but turned into an even fuzzier blob.
Didn't even get any dog meat

I wonder if the rabbit board is as happy as I am ?

I'm definitely warming to her,, but I'll hold judgement till "YoDave" joins the party, and springs into action.

Yeah Jim Tom,
It's a Sika Product called "Concrete Fix Kit"

A two pack product, (pay particular attention to the pre mixing and mixing) directions.
I got it from Cunnings.
I got it on spec and did some experiments first before trying it as an actual bedding compound to see if it was up to the task.
I roughened up the surface of a piece of thick plywood and particle board,, applied some and waited for it to cure.
Then tried to hammer it out with a hammer,, blunt ended chisel and drift.
It came out, but took about 5mm of the timber out with it.

So far I've done 3 rifles with it and one of those was a .375 Mag.

I guess its intended purpose doesn't include bedding firearms,,,, but it does a bloody good job, and is cheap compared to conventional stuff.

No mate, the accuracy is pretty amazing on sally, so I don’t want to mess with it. I did note the action screws backing out with the recoil... sally does kick pretty bloody hard in 06...more so than holly my howa 300 ever did.

I’m really surprised RE Dj’s tikka...I thought they were better than that...I wonder if they are consistently bad or one off...
