Reloading pistol

Hello All
I am going to reload for two pistols listed below.
I was hoping for some advice on powders to use, projectiles and primes.
the first is a Desert eagle 44 Mag.
the other is Kimber 45 ACP.
I have APS450 for other pistol I load for, was hoping to use this. Also have federal small pistol primes.
Any advise, helpful hints would be appreciated.

Small Pistol primers won't fit those, you need Large Pistol primers.
What purpose do you have for them, that will greatly effect bullet choice, and possibly powder choice.

The Desert Eagle can be a finicky beast to reload, and cycling problems can occur when reloading compared to factory ammo. I would suggest that whichever club/range you belong to etc, you check with those in the know as what they would recommend. A 44 mag and a 45 in NSW requires a High Cal permit and these calibers are really used for Metallic Silhouette matches. It that is what you want to use them for, then all the more for developing proper loads.

If you really want to stay with one primer size, it is possible to get 45ACP and 44 Magnum (Hornady) brass with small primer pockets, just don't get them mixed up with standard brass or you will swear a lot! As Bugman posted the DEagle can be fussy, they like full power ammo to cycle reliably, even a mates 357 needed full house to work without stovepipes. I used a few SP 45 cases recently, they offer no advantage over normal LP cases other than they use lead free primers as factory loaded and seem to burn cleaner from the factory. Just don't mix a case in the wrong pile. I can't help with a load for the new powder as I haven't used up my supply of AP50 and AP70 yet, and I'm not sure I will stay with ADI once I run out, may go back to Alliant, Cheers.

I currently have a 357 DE and have worked up a load that cycles the pistol just fine.
I will be doing metallic silhouette later, with the larger pistols (45 ACP and 44 Magnum) but first want to know if anyone loads for the 44 Magnum DE to point me in the correct direction and perhaps save me some time in load development, same with the 45ACP.
I have purchased brass for both pistols.
But was hoping the good folk of Enough gun community may have some experience with the above pistols and loads that would work.
BC (before kids) I would shoot 45ACP, but I always purchased loaded ammunition from gun stores. Now I want to try my hand at loading for them.
I was hoping for info on projectile weights and primer brands to use along with what ADI powder to use.
As a side note, I will also be loading for 375 HH, what weight projectile? what powder: AR2208 or AR 2209 or AR213sc, this gun will be used for s**ts and giggles for now, then hunting larger game in the future.

My current 44Mag is 10.8g of AP70 with 200g SWC for around 1200fps avg. If you were going to use lead pills I would drop that down to about 8g. This feel pretty stout in my 6" Model 29 but I can't speak for the auto. My 45 load for various ACP pistols is 5.0g of AP50 with 185g SWC which I use for 3 Position and Field Pistol Metallic (25 to 100 yds). For the new powders you need to reduce these loads, I would use ADI data to start and for the new powder, Cheers.

While generally speaking, I would stick with Large Pistol primers for 45ACP and 44Mag.
As has already been stated Desert Eagles, being gas operated, pretty much require full power loads and/or a developed load that produces the required amount of gas to operate the action consistently.
I do note that ADI do not list a load for APS450 above 210gn jacketed projectiles. Not an issue for the 45ACP cartridge.

For field pistol silhouette, neither gun is particularly effective, and as has been stated you need a hi Cal permit in NSW (and Vic) but at least in Vic we have approved matches other than FP silhouette for greater than 38 but less than 45 (Class 4).

I own a few Desert Eagles (357, 44 & 50AE) and they need a hot load in order to cycle. I run a 240gr XTP, 23gr of AR2205, COAL 1.600", CCI 350 primer with excellent results. It's critical that you NEVER use lead projectiles and don't "limp wrist" the pistol but I guess you already know that.
I also have a few 45ACP's but haven't tried APS450 yet as I've got plenty of AP50 on the shelf.
What club do you shoot with?
