.308 FMJs

Post by Die Judicii » 08 Jun 2020, 10:33 pm

Who here shoot and or has experience with .308 FMJs ??

Do they have a vastly different trajectory than say,,,, normal hunting rounds ?

Trajectory is down to its shape, not whether the point is jacketed. An FMJ with the same BC as an HP, SP or BT would fly exactly the same curve.

G'day Die Judicii,
That is 7.62 NATO blank made by Dynamit Nobel, Troisdorf. Germany (ex-GECO) made April 1961, Cheers.

I actually have some of the blue plastic German 7.62 NATO training ammo and a G3 bolt for my PTR-91 G3 clone rifle.

It's a 9g plastic bullet that travels at 4000 FPS.

Yes I load FMJ for 7.62 NATO/308. Either 147g FMJ M80 bullet military surplus or 150g FMJ Hornady. They are fine for plinking and target shooting out to a 200-300 yards. I wouldn't use them for long range competition.

SLR blank.
My late Twin Brother who won a Queens in Fullbore and also coached would demonstrate flinch to an effected student by suggesting that rather than disturb shooting position between shots Bill would load the [invariably] Omark for the student.
He would load one of those blanks and when the learner flinched he and Bill would have a discussion, brilliant man.
I once used those blanks to cause an F111 to be "shot down" by two Mirages at Shoalwater Bay.
Was alone on top of a hill running a couple of 77 sets as relay comms when the big jet comprehensively ruined my breakfast, a curious brief whistle then I was looking up two jetpipes in afterburner, the noise was astounding.
Given that they were very low and had no cannon I reckon I got napalmed.
Refusing to die I let off half a mag of blanks at the bastards when they came back to check their work, I reckon they were both laughing so hard they failed to notice the Mirages.
I also claim an RAN Skyhawk damaged at Tincan Bay but just got roused on for making noise.
