BX-15 magazine cleaning

I may have lead people astray.

I decided to drill the rivets out of my BX15 today to clean it out.
Luckily I put on some 4-power glasses to do so and noticed that the rivet head almost looks like a socket-head screw. A comprehensive set of imperial and metric though did not fit, either they are rivets, or the head has been drilled out after installation...but I thought to try a Torx bit as well, and it worked.

They appear to be T10 Torx-head and it opened up very nicely. Mine is prior to them being restricted to 10rds.
If you have a 10rd BX-15 check it as it may be riveted to prevent it being unrestricted.

But if it is not riveted you can open it up and remove the restrictor block - provided it is legal for you to do so. If you own a Ruger Charger I would recommend you do not modify a restricted BX-15 to avoid being in the position of possessing a 15rd magazine for the pistol. Only pistols are restricted to 10rd mags in all states so it is legal to have .22LR 15rd rifle mags.

These days with the "precursor laws", an empty plastic bottle is a precursor for a Glock pistol and an empty aluminium can is a precursor for an AR15.

This is good info cheers mate. I have started the ball rolling to get my collectors licence so that way pistol mags can be unlimited. QLD also has unlimited Cat A mags so they sell the 25 round mags for the Ruger American up here. A Ruger Charger with a custom made 100 round drum would be awesome on a collectors licence.

Awesome? Maybe on the rare occasions you'll be allowed to actually use it. Not very awesome just sitting in the safe on a Collector's Licence.

That magazine design explains allot. I used one in my American and it didn't particularly like it. I think it preferred the rotary style of the original style. You can see in that pic how the rims sit awkward. I think the rotaries handle it better

Personally i think the rotary style is superior for rimfire, as it works best with the rimmed awkwardness. But thanks for the detailed view really got the old mind working.

I'm the opposite, I never liked the Ruger rotary, they're fiddly to load and unload, and awkwardly shaped for pocket carry. The BX-15 is easier to load and unload, but still far bulkier than it needs to be. The old 15rd Stirling Model 20 semi-auto mags were much more comfortable in the pockets.

They are a solid block, thats why i tried the bx15 because its more ergonomic for carry and reloading. But the bit of jams really put me off. But it could have beean a dud mag or also operator error.

Ive actually got loading the 10 rounders down pat now, just a smooth push and slide and a nice full mag. Am looking at a revolver speed loader pouch for belt carry for a few sparies.

Once or twice a year would be enough for me mate. I dont have the time to shoot pistols more than that.

They are all screws no rivets, limited ones are simply the bx15 with a piece of hose shoved up its arse. Use a torch bit don't lose any follower parts and enjoy
