I’m having a lazy Friday. ( actually due to this poor economy I have a lazy day every day ) Tomorrow lunch I drive down to dads farm. My nephew has expressed an interest in going hunting for the first time, (or maybe the brother in law just wants to teach his son how to shoot) son is 15 I think. So they are meeting me on the farm this weekend. I’ll probably just start with a 22 mag to keep it easy for a newbie, and they can fire off oodles at a super low cost. It’s also much quieter and will keep dad and the neighbours on side. It’s on only 50 acres but hilly and we have a very steep stock free mountain to use as a back drop ......then if they are comfy they can try a bigger rifle. It will also give me an opportunity to sight in my new 308 prior to its first deer / dingo hunt .....when I think about it , it’s probably the first time I have ever had to teach / supervise a young person. But they are both very sensible and respectful......I have already emailed them gun safety info I found on the net. Nothing like a bit of pre training reading I think ...I hoping to offer use of a conventional scope, and a NV. and a thermal. So they get quite a broad introduction as to what’s out there .....here’s hoping for good weather

Yes Tassie it wouldn't be a quick or easy fix but you might be right about a chat section I doubt it would cause any harm

A few posts surrounding it gone, and they typically would be.

In this instance I thought Bigrich's reply was perhaps a post worth keeping, given the discussion at hand.

Grandadbushy wrote:Straightshooter, mate call them what you will but whatever they're called they are no friend to a debate or a forum, there are plenty on here who can have a joke and do it tactfully and be absolutely funny, but there are those that do it to discredit someone full well knowing what they are doing, eventually it leads to neither side backing down then to someone being banned, for what ,? because they've been baited and yes sometimes it is in jest but without any thought of the outcome and then a continuation of the baiting, i'm not the smartest person by any means but I have enough intelligence to note when a person is upset by something that was said so this is when things should be brought back to perspective and not have to wait for the mods to start banning people and lets not get a good old piss take confused with a baiting from a person who takes pride in doing so, I find it amazing that some on here that do do the baiting have never mentioned having a rifle or any type of gun for that matter or engaged in a debate of reloading or load development or hunting yet find time and to their liking to bait those that do if I can see it how many others do and why haven't the mods done something to settle things in this area, this would be more fixing than banning those that get caught up in such stuff But hey maybe i'm way out of line in voicing my opinion.

Good points GDB. The way I see it is some just love to stir sh!t, bait, abuse, & argue or aggravate for the sake of it, and generally sh!t stir just for fun. IMO they don't belong here.

Also people forget you need to be careful what you type. Often all of the message doesn't get a cross and is taken the wrong way. And it is public open for anyone to view. If we argue & act like idiots those that read it think we are, and that's understandable.

Do we want the public to think the shooting sport is full of argumentative idiots?

Tassie has suggested a "Chat" section", has merit I guess but would that stop the above, I doubt it.

There is a complaint button but seems it's not used enough. I thought perhaps that it could be bigger or a different colour to make it a little more obvious?

Maybe we need more mods?

I just don't see on other forums (and I'm on a few) the sort of stuff going on here. I wonder why? There must be a reason, ?

Members opinions are always welcome, back.

While we obviously won't always be able to implement ideas to the letter, but no one will ever be chided or get on the bad side of a mod by giving genuine feedback. It's always taken onboard.

Removal of the Off-topic section has been raised before. There is however a lot of genuine content in there, and it's a section that members spend significant time in, so removing it would have some clear downside as well. This will be something for Aster to review again and decide.

I haven't read much of this thread
I'm not sure what the story is in terms of the vanishing threads

But I will be completely honest

I actually use EnoughGun for the right reasons

I use EnoughGun for the brainstorming of ideas and information

I use EnoughGun to learn essentially

I have learned so much about firearms thanks to EnoughGun and thanks to the members of EnoughGun

That's why everytime I purchase a new firearm, I like to write an in-depth review about it on EnoughGun, because that's a way for me to give back to the forum.
That's a way for me to give back to the people.

That seems 100% fair to me
You don't wanna just take, take, take and never give
It doesn't work like that

If you help me
I will also help you
And gladly so

If you're kind to me
I will also be kind to you
And it's as simple as that

However
There have been a few people that used to try to bait me a fair bit on here
(Other new members reported the same thing happening to them also)
Those baiters seem to have disappeared from the forum now
I haven't seen them post anything for quite a while

So I think that what the moderators are doing in terms of weeding out the constant baiters and sh1t stirers.
I think it's actually worked so far.

The culture seems to be better on here now
I see less drama/attacks and less baiting on here now

Don't get me wrong
I'm extremely pro freedom of speech etc
However, weeding out the baiters
That does improve the culture a lot
And that's a great thing for this forum
People just wanna learn in peace I think

I think the appeal of enough gun is that the behaviour of members is pretty good unlike some other forums that allow a ridiculous amount of racist and bigoted behaviour. They portray shooters and hunters in a very poor light

Well Bill I don't know what forums you are on but i'm on a couple and they do not condone any racism what so ever, I do agree that enough gun is one of the better ones but unfortunately where humans are concerned you will always have conflict no matter what forum you are on and having hunters and shooters portrayed in very poor light is exactly what we have been talking about partly caused by the baiting and so on, leading up to the removal of members , something we all should think about don't you think

Yes - a live chat, some forums show when members are in line and you can have a beer in front of computer and talk crap that otherwise might end up in posts / I’ve seen it clean up some bike forums where ppl actually arrange meetings to chat at xxx time and date. I don’t know logistics or costs or if would even work here, but I have seen it clean up forums / threads.

l do not like the reference to other forums, enough gun is not other forums, the comparison is not needed

l have stayed with the forum because l get along with most of the members and enjoy helping people out with shooting problems the right way that l have learnt over many many years, after spending a lot of time around ranges l know how much BS is spoken there LOL it maybe good in nature but it is still bullsh!t, l have to say also l have learnt a heap from others on this site as well but l still do not like BS and will challenge it, l will try and challenge it the right way but criticism is just that take it or dont, l only ever got involved in the political discussions quite a while ago because of the gangups that l saw were happening and wish l never did but this is one area where l have learnt things eg... l now can argue why climate change is BS LOL, and why hillary was crap and Trump will do another term
anyway it would be good to say we all should be heard but if its BS leave it at the door, understand someone else can always teach you something you do not know it all, there's one member saying people should not be here in his opinion, what if others thought he shouldn't be here? he also says about others being sh!t stirers? but what if others think he is guilty of the same?that sort of talk actually makes him look bitter and twisted

enough gun does not need to turn into any other forum, hey that's why they left time to move on
its enough as it is and the people who are having a winge need to look in the mirror at there own behaviours, we know about why the threads get pulled down
l will add it is the snowflakes when the threads do not go there way who are baiting and trying to get the threads taken down because the thread does not follow their ideas, they just need to get over it and move on, its not everyone who has a problem or wants the forum to change
l think the appropriate response is to call out the baiter eg.. BR called Bill out in this thread, Olbloke was called out in another
l myself would not jump into a chat but that does not mean l would not support the guys who would

A live-chat option is something that's crossed my mind before. I definitely see some potential in the idea, and would be happy to give it a go.

I don't know what the platform would provide this off the top of my head, or what development would cost if that was the required route, but I will look into it.

If you've got any example sites you can PM me, Tassie, that could be helpful.
See you on the firing line.

You can set up a Discord server and then embed it into the forum using something like Titan Embed. Have seen that on another forum.
