What are the go to affordable calibres for Australia?

Personally, I’d keep it simple...
.22, .17hmr, 222, 223, 243, 6.5 (add in variant) 280, 300bo, 7mm, 308, 30-06, 300win, 300rum, 338 varying, 12g(varying), 45/70 and / or 30/30 and maybe giggles a 500 nitro.
Oh - and a air rifle.

The one thing I want, but don’t really need, 358 Norma magnum. They fit a 30-06 action as well. Actually, a 264 win mag would be nice. Damn it ! There goes the “minimum “ rifle collection

mate , get a weihrauch , any will do ,or diana 34 if ya want a good springer. i bought a seriously undervalued hw80 from my LGS . this thing is a magnum in springer terms . off a rest it was shooting a group 20mm high by the width of a 22 cal pellet at 23 metres . and i ran the numbers , this one was made in 1982 and still shoots like a champ they are heavy but , i'm thinking of getting a smaller version . weihrauchs have great triggers, same triggers on the powder burners they make
i was pretty keen on a pcp , good power and accuracy . check out youtube and fellas are knocking rabbits over out past 22lr ranges . but all the mucking around with air cylinders/supply has put me off the idea . as well as having to replace o ring seals at times . a qaulity springer with a "tune" kit works smoother and with less noise than a standard springer

bottom line , a good air rifle is cheap and quiet for plinking .$10 for 500 pellets in 177

I’m not doing the pump / tank thing for the purpose I have - it might only come out in spring a couple times or for ppl to get their eye in. I thought break barrels would be less accurate cause they aren’t fixed ?

mate, taz , all i'll say is google weihrauch accuracy , especially english forums . the accuracy out of these is really good in a a break barrel cause germans know how to engineer a good product . the hw77 fixed barrel underlever can produce 50 yard groups that a anschutz owner would be envious of . but their heavy rifles. that's the downside . i'm gunna move on my hw80 for a hw50s . it makes around 11 fpe in 22 caliber, down from the 18 fpe my hw80 makes ,but i'll probably plink more than hunt with it . having said that the hw50 can produce enough power to wack rabbits out to 50 yards with head shots . the recommended fpe for clean kills on rabbits is 8 fpe get onto youtube for some amazing stuff . 25 cal is the latest air rifle thing , and some yanks with custom guns knock over pigs with 30 cal air guns and one lot knock down a bison with a 45 cal air gun shooting 405 gn cast boolits

lookup air arms s510 , weihrauch hw100 , bsa r10 in pcp . air tanks or not , what they can do is impressive
