Would you buy a Remington?

Hey guys

I hope that everyone is well


I was thinking about purchasing the:
"Remington Fieldmaster 572"
Just you know, as a fun plinking rifle
Why not
I thought it might be pleasant to own a pump action in 22LR to diversify a bit
(As my other rifles are mainly all bolt action)

The Remington Fieldmaster 572 looks good
However, I feel a bit nervous about purchasing a Remington.....

I have heard a lot of reports from shooters in AUS and the USA about how bad Remington is
Apparently, when it comes to buying a Remington rifle, apparently it's a bit like Russian roulette
You could get a great rifle or you could get a lemon
It seems to be kind of 50/50
(From what I heard from people and from what I read)

Also, the fact that Remington went bankrupt twice as well
That doesn't give me a lot of confidence about purchasing a Remington as well....

What I read also is that;
Remington was bought out by a company called: "Freedom Group"
And apparently that company "Freedom Group" just wants to get the rifles out of the factory as fast as possible without worrying too much about quality control at all, hence all the lemons that we are seeing and hearing about from shooters from the USA and AUS etc

Please note;
- This is all what I heard from other shooters and read
- I'm just going off from what I have read and heard from other people

What do you guys reckon?

Would you personally buy a Remington?

Ok firstly no i don't have one. But Have you seen the article on SSAA website, its old. But might do. They seem to like it. Pumps or levers IMHO are not the one you pickup when accuracy is important.

If you think it might be the one you want, go for it and don't worry too much about accuracy just enjoy it... you able to shoot still?

Ive purchased a older rem 700 from the late 70s or early 80s appears ok havent shot it yet but i have heard enough to scare me out of buying a new one but then again i have always been sceptical about buying cheaper rifles as ive always found that you get what you pay for.

Yes, no hesitation in buying a new Rem or a much older one. Remington ran into some reliability and QC issues compounded by some poor customer relations after the buyout, asset strippers are not good economic bedfellows, but have improved greatly in recent years. Don't get confused between poor corporate management and product reliability, the current position is the company is for sale with the most likely contender being the Navajo Nation, a tribe with a good track record in business. If you want a Rem pump 22, buy a new one or one made in the 90's or earlier and you will have no regrets, even later one but that becomes a gamble, Cheers. (PS: I have 7 Remingtons but all older models, love them)

However,

From what I read
Remington rifles were really good back, in the 70’s and 80’s etc
But the new ones from what I read, can be quite shocking so
Hence my hesitation in buying the Remington 572
It's tough lol
I would hate to spend $1,500 on the remington 572 to then have problems with it
I'm trying to weigh it up

as far as 700's go , i would only like a "A" series 700 from the late 60's early 70's . just my preference . i did own a new marlin about two years ago in 357 , and it was a good well made accurate gun . just needed a better trigger

You pays your money and you takes your chances, IMO.
I was lucky with my 7600 and my 39A, just to be fair. But also to be fair, I did not know what a gamble either of them was at the times of purchase or I would not have gone near either.

If I was after a .22 pump I’d much rather something like a Henry, big shop in Qld has octagonal barrel models for $1045, nearly $500 less then the Rem, and it’s actually an attractive rifle, I thing the rem is pretty ugly looking.

Another good point. You only really need one 22LR.

Hell, look at the Citadel Levtac-92. It'll compliment the Ruger Precision you've got.

Comes equipped with magtec foregrip, peep sights and picatinny rail. 18" barrel, 8 round tube mag, available in 3357 Magnum, 44 Magnum and 454 Casul.

From what I read, Remington made great rifles in the 60’s and 70’s, that’s right
Anything recent apparently, the feedback that I seem to get is that it’s a bit 50/50

I’m tossing it up between the Remington Fieldmaster 572 v/s Henry Pump action
I already have a Henry Lever action in 22LR though
That’s why I was thinking of going with the Remington 572
Just to mix things up a little and add another “brand” to my safe
I actually think the Remington 572 looks better than the Henry Pump to be honest
I love the brand henry, however, I find the henry pump to look a bit basic but that’s just me
Just personal preference I suppose

Once I add my pump action in 22LR to my safe, I will then have 5x 22LR’s
I’m not gonna lie
I truly am a firearm enthusiast
And for me, whenever I go down to the range, I like to spend 5x hours straight, just plinking away all day long
So the only calibres that I can afford to shoot would be the 22LR and 223 only as I don’t wanna break the bank
I don’t really need any other calibre
I will get a 12ga as well for clay target shooting also
So, 22LR, 223 and 12ga
That’s all I really need to be honest

For what I wanna do
Which is just plinking all day long without having a care in the world about breaking the bank

I also heard the terms: “lemmingtons” as they have quite a few lemons
I also heard “rustingtons” as sometimes when you buy a new Remington, it’s already rusted sometimes
I actually heard of 2x people where their brand new Remingtons already had traces of rust on them
And they were brand new in a box
I couldn’t quite believe it
I still kind of can’t
I don’t know if they were being legitimate or not
If they were, that would be pretty terrible and worrisome...

No worries mate! I've been meaning to get a 44 Mag to round out the fleet and this was the perfect thing. Something different, something I won't mind taking on a trip where it might get scratched etc.

l have never owned a remington for the reasons l stated above but there are plenty of people who absolutely love them
l can understand the attraction to a pump as well although they do go against how l usually shoot
l recently bought a winchester 06 pump 22rf takedown gallery gun made in the early 1920's that we have been having an absolute ball with
as far as 22 pumps go l bought this one as soon as l saw it and would buy another, maybe, just for competing against my son
they are IMHO a real fun gun

In terms of father and son "down time"
I think that there’s nothing better than a father and a son, just plinking away, with iron sights, with either pump action or lever action 22 rifles
It seems like such a good traditional father and son moment lol
I can't wait to do that with my son once he is a bit older

I bought this SENDERO brand new from the States I think it was late 2014 early 2015 and that was supposed to be around the worst of their quality control and all I did was replace the useless h&s Precision stock for a proper stock because I couldn't shoot it for group with the previous one .

the second rifle is a 260 that I build on a long action that thing was scary accurate rabbit size targets at over 1000 yards not a problem if you did your part , lot of people won't believe it but yeah there you go .

I would not buy a pump 22. If I’m shooting a 22 I want super precise shot placement and I think a bolt gun is the best for that ..I have a rem pump 308 and a marlin lever 4570. And a rem 300 blackout ...I’m happy with the current quality of these rifles

hell no, now I say this as the owner of two. but in todays market with Howa, Bergara, Weatherby, Ruger, Sabatti, Rosslinger, Blaser, Winchester, Savage, Nosler, sauer, browning, CZ, Sako, Tikka, Anschutz, Kimber, Thompson Center, all more than covering anything remington can produce, except for maybe the pump action centerfires, I cant bring myself to entertain the idea after all the dramas I have had with my Rem purchases.

Howa, Weatherby, Bergara and Sabatti being pet picks for me.

as a reference to this post, i said i would prefer a older 700 . well i think that rings true for me with most brands. i prefer older winchester 70's, mausers and such . but my weatherby vangaurd , early series 2 , is a well made accurate shooter . i bought it second hand to replace a sauer 100xt that was a very average shooter, and i think i'm allergic to synthetic stocks and plastic in modern rifles anyway

how has reducing the trigger weight caused an issue?? mine are all as haired off as the safety catches will allow, nothing but improved accuracy can be gained by lighter triggers, they are always 100% more likely to be accurate than a long heavy trigger.... i fail to see how thats an issue.
