Hi, beware of the diamondback 3-9x40, I bought one when I got my new CZ 452, it’s nice and clear, only problem is is that the eye relief was ridiculous, it’s stated in the specs at 3.3 inches, but was nowhere near this, near had my eye up against the scope, ppl used to ask why I was hunched right over the rifle, till they had a look thru it. Combined with the kick of a .243 it mightn’t be a good choice.

Although I'm back to a synthetic stock. Thoughts on the suitability for mounting a bipod on the this stock? There is also the compact version of that rifle for the same money that is lighter again.

I bought the Ruger American Compact in 243 last year. Really like it, haven’t tried a bipod though, as I don’t own one. But for out the window of the ute, or off a bag over the bonnet, it shoots extremely well. I’ve got three Rugers now, and without them being quite as nice as my Lithgow 223, or some other more expensive rifles, they are still fantastic. They just work, and that’s all they’ve got to do at the end of the day.

Thanks everyone for all the tips and suggestions. This finally turned up with the postie today. Feels like a nice bit of gear. Weight is pretty good too. Now I just need to get out to the range and get it sighted in and find somewhere to go hunting. Thanks again.
