PTA Expiry

Post by Yes » 18 Aug 2021, 11:47 am

Anyone else in lockdown with a PTA expiring shortly?
I was going to head in to my LGS the day before the PTA expires and if I got pulled over explain that it was 'essential'? A couple of weeks back when I asked, the Firearms registry stated they had no plans to extend extant PTAs due to the current restrictions.
Cheers

How long does a PTA last for in NSW? They are 6 months by law here and legally can not be extended.

Three months here in NSW.
I had it a couple of weeks before the lockdown waiting on the gun to come in. Gun came in on the first Monday of lockdown - had it come on the Friday, I'd have got it before lockdown etc. But that means the PTA expires early next month (i.e. still in lockdown!). Not that I can use the gun, can't travel to my property, but I'd rather spend $30 on some reloading supplies than give it to the Gov again!

If you know the firearm you want to buy, you can send the PTA to the dealer and they can do the paperwork. You might have to pay a deposit or the full price, depends on the dealer. I had to do this with my latest purchase, dealer had the rifle and my PTA was about to expire, just sent it to them so they could complete the registration process. Still waiting to pick my rifle up, f#$king lock-downs!

Ditto to that, but with a slight variation. I copied my PTA but sent the origional to my dealer by registered mail, paid for the item over the phone and now have to wait until covid restrictions are eased or lifted. Hopefully all will be ok.

Thanks, guys... this might be the safest option. I know the guys at the LGS well so I am sure they would handle it for me.

Go on the way to the LGS.

If you get stopped say you were going to [insert fast food or grocery chain along that way].

Yeah the issue with that at the moment is the 5km radius rule. LGS is a few suburbs out of my LGA. And as of today, the extension to the lockdown is definitely going to cover the PTA period!

Ah, screw that then. Better to pay for a $30 PTA when you're ready instead of a massive, totally BS quaratine fine.

Mind you... you could have a chat with the shop and mail them the permit perhaps?
