I'm a bit hesitant to get a centerfire due to noise, but it would be perfect to sit on the hill and take care of the foxes that are rampant at the moment.

Won't be as nice as a suppressed one I suppose, but a .223 isn't that loud and is perfectly comfortable with earmuffs on.

Now having said all this, I buy and use firearms I can buy ammo for easily in all states. With the exception of WA, its on a particular with North Korea when u need to buy ammo. I worked in the gun trade in geraldton for years.

Not an Aussie, never been to your lovely country. But from my understanding of your gun laws, my suggestions would be:

1. 22LR bolt action rifle
2. 22LR lever action rifle (Browning's BL-22 is the next fastest thing to a semiauto)
3. 303 SMLE (I like my No4 mk1)
4. 223 Remington bolt action rifle
5. 308 Winchester sporter

.223- perfect entry level centrefire that's useful in so many ways

.308w- cheap(ish) to shoot, will take down any animal in Australia.

12g- quintessential scatter gun, everyone should have one.

45/70 lever, cause it's a man's gun and makes me chuckle just looking at the rounds. Everyone should have at least one lever gun, cause you know , they're cool.

But PERSONALTY I don,t think we should be providing the antis shopping list of ideas they come up with some weird ideas as it is so to them a thread where many people say we should only have 5 guns is not a good idea to me that is retroactive and playing into their thought process we should be saying what 5 rifles/guns will we be buying next month .
I may be wrong just my take on it as i have over 20 calibers now.

Are you sure your .223 is on a ZKK 600? - that would be way long - it's .30-06 or .270 length after all.

Less is more my friend - waste not, want not. Practically speaking, IMO I think 5 guns is more than enough.

I see where you're coming from and I agree with your premise. So here's a list of the five guns I think you could look at as a good starting point to a collection.

1. A good quality bolt action 22 LR. I like CZ's 455, but any well made one will do, the 455 has the advantage of being capable of being convertible to other cartridges. One action to register and three barrels and two mags give's you 22LR, 22 WMR, and 17HMR.

2. Double barreled shotgun. Most of my scatterguns are repeaters but I do own a trio of SxS and one O/U. Gauge would be 12 to start with.

3. Bolt action, military, 303.

4. Bolt action sporter rifle in 243 Win or 260 Rem.

5. Ruger Single-Six with a six inch barrel. With the extra cylinder you get 22LR/22 WMR, This is a good reliable starter gun and will last to your great-grandchildren.
