6x47 opinions

okay fellas i'm asking for opinions on this caliber . my use for 223 has mostly been as a cheap caliber for feild rifle comps at my local range . i don't get to do any culling of any sort very often . i get out to hunt medium game , pigs , deer, and in the past goats. on these trips i take a 6.5x55 or 270 win as a minimum that allows me to take anything i might come across . 358win, 9.3x62 and 45-70 as a option , just because

anyway , i'm considering getting a 6x47 over the 223 . very long barrel life with very good ballistics and efficiancy with powder for it's size . i know 223 is cheap and less fuss , but i'm liking the idea of the 6x47 . better terminal performance of a 6mm 87 vmax as well i think on the occasional hunting trip than a 5.56 slug.

just sounds like a excuse for a new project doesn't it ? yeah well it is ....

anyway , lets have your opinions

what action are you going to use bigrich, detachable mag or floor plate ?

I think the 6mm's are going thru a renewed appreciation as we lean away from the common as muck 223

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I’m referring to a 223 case necked up to 6mm
The choice action would be a tikka t3 , as waterman rifle magazines make custom long magazines in 2.4” and 2.6” which would save on reworking a internal magazine in length for this to work in a repeating bolt gun . Wish I still had my 222 model 70 . Would be very easy to rework the mag length and bolt stop in one of those

I looked into building one once,still think it would be a good thing on a lot of lighter game

The original Remington 6x47 was a 222 necked up to 6mm, bigrich may have made a typo. I had one which I swapped for a Winchester M70 in 225 Win that I still have but haven't fired since I bought the Tikka in 22-250, Cheers.

that's correct pete . 6x45, 222 necked up is probably more practicle due to brass availability

6x43 is the 222r 6x45 is the 223 and 6x47 is the 222 rem mag .
I had a 6x45 that shot 9000 rounds and would still hold .800 .

Just head, or even vital, shot the thing and its not going to care under 300m.

thanks for clearing that up there's not too much info on some of these "wildcat" rounds . necked up 222 would fit in a standard 223 action i reckon , the necked up 223 can fit in the t3 action with a waters rifleman mag . these can be ordered in 2'4 and 2.6" COL lengths 6x47 is a little more specialized in action choice

Necked up 223 will fit any 223 action,there's not a lot of difference. I've even heard of folks just loading a boat tail 6mm into a 223 case to form it.

righto , thought a longer 87 vmax would blow the COL for 223 mags out a fair bit . hmmm, more research needed

the ability to make my own brass from a easy to obtain supply of 223 brass is a prime requisite . and have it function through a existing action without the need for any real custom gunsmithing is a big part of it too . i already make 358 win brass from free 308 cases , i would like to do the same with 223

25-45 sharps is looking like a winner . however there is a greater choice of projectiles in 6mm . more research ......

Nah 6mm ARC ( aka the 6mm PPC Improved ) going to be available next year on the Howa Mini platform, fills the gap between the 223AI and the 243
