Cleaning bolt lug cavities

Hi all hope all doing well , my question is how do i clean the bolt lug cavities in the barrel , can i buy a tool to do the job ??
Any ideas .............thanks

Over size nylon brush , say for a 12 gauge shotty. I should clean mine .....

I've got a J dewy lug recess cleaning kit but as above I tend to just use a 12g brush. The short dewy rod is handy though.

I bought one of those “Spika “ four piece brass cleaning rod sets that screw together with a handle. I just use one part of the rod with the handle screwed on one end and a 12ga brush on the other end

Try searching evilbay for "dental cotton rolls".
I borrowed a rod/holder at a competition shoot years ago that utilised these , worked a treat. It held the roll at 90 degrees, a few turns and you were done. Never did get around to organising one for myself. Wouldn't be too hard to knock something up. I just use a slotted jag with a piece of 4 x 2 flannel.

I use a piece of fencing wire. The old fashioned kind, not the high tensile stuff. Take about 18" and put a 90* bend in one end, no more than 1/2 inch long. Buy some El Cheapo, "Swisspers", in the Baby Section of your supermarket. Lop the buds off a Swiwwper. Notice, it's hollow. Grind a point on the short end of your wire and slide/shove the bud on. Make a loop for your hand to hold at the other end and poke the bud down through the action, into the "ante chamber", as Jim Sweet used to say. That is between the locking lug abutments and the face/beginning of the chamber. Position the full length of the bud against one of those abutment lumps and use the loop to swivel the wire, so that the bud rubs against the lump.

A piece of 5/8ths PVC conduit with a hole in the end and some rolled up flannelette or cotton cloth.
Could just as easily be aluminium tube or plastic rod. Fits every centerfire bolt action I have.
Surprising how much rubbish it sometimes removes.

So is the idea you just stick it through where bolt would be, the cloth flops out into the lug cavity and you give it a twirl?

You might be able to save a bit by designing your own holder for the Felts.

On Rifles I can take the barrel off myself I remove the barrel and clean from the front of the Action.
