What did you do today?

Post by Oldbloke » 12 Oct 2021, 1:25 pm

Always interesting to see what people are doing hunting, firearm or anything shooting related.

I'll kick it off.
I Finished replacing this 30 year old recoil pad on my old M 70 Winchester.
The new one cost $7 on ebay about 2 yrs ago. But I had to make the spacer. $5 for the black perspex. Along over due job.

Actually better than it looks in the pic. :D

I stirred up our chickens by playing various predator calls at them through my Bluetooth speaker

Nothing really firearm related, taking photos of bayonets and updating the database in case I fall off the perch and the Mrs has to sell my collection. Guns at least we know several of the States leading sellers of military firearms and will be looked after there but without blowing my own trumpet I am one of the leading collectors of bayonets in this State and have some items no one else would have, so they need to be catalogued and priced. Fortunately the task is leading me to drink!! (or is that just an excuse to have an early Scotch?) Cheers.

Q: How do you (or any other members) get along with the lower pointy end of these recoil pads ?

They annoy the hell outa me because they invariably get hung up in the shirt or shirt pocket.
Every one that I've ever had,, I buff that little pointy bit off.

I shot a whole bunch of machine guns for my birthday celebration:

M-60
M-240(FN MAG)
Russian RPD
CMMG 45 ACP AR platform suppressed
CZ 25 submachine gun
Steyr AUG
MAC 10 45 ACP suppressed
Short barrel AK-47
German WW2 MP40
Short barrel HK 53 in 5.56

Also visited a bunch of gun shops in my travels. Few primers, some powder, limited selection of bullets, very little hunting type ammo, plenty of overpriced 556/223, very little pistol ammo, plenty of guns available.

I love my food preparation so I just freeze dried some more food for storage. 3 whole chickens at the current market cost of $60. With inflation in the decades to come they will be worth thousands of dollars.

Filled the Casting pot and turned it on at 7.00 am. Put two molds in a skillet on the stove to heat up.
Started pouring at 8.00, knocked out 100 .375 for my HT Bugg muzzle loader, then a 100 .40 Cal for the 40/65 Rolling block. Finish pouring at 10.00. Weighed, indexed and packed away ready to go by 11.00. Job done.

I did a RAT yesterday as I'm crook with a cold. Still in bed today but it's dropped from the throbbing head to a painful flegmy cough. So I went for a 2500m walk to cut some trees, then home again. Now I'm resting again. Rose took the grandkids to Phillip Island this morning to get them away from me for a couple days :-)

Hoped to do some Silhouette practice when I got back but really don't feel up to it now.

Got some local covidity happening in the extended family as well, one tested positive this morning.

Sorry, yes, negative, just a nasty cold. It's passing through me in stages, today appears to be runny nose/sneezing day, but the headache, flegmy cough and raw throat seems to have subsided overnight. Going to walk down to the bottom block again shortly to pump water and cut some wood.

So far only one person has tested positive, and she had zero symptoms of illness. Apparently the RAT's are quite reliable so she and her family are now isolating, as are some that have been in contact. Our understanding is this Covid may have come from a Scout camp last weekend.

It's raining now... and I sprayed weed killer about 1.5hrs ago.

Time to get into bed and goto sleep I think

I'm currently doing 4 things

1. Waiting to see if I develop COVID symptoms after doing some training with a positive person on the weekend.
2. Waiting on Amazon to deliver shiny new Peltors
3. Waiting on a call from the gun shop to tell me my LA101 and scope have arrived
4. Posting here because its the only place people will understand the frustration of waiting for all the first 3!
