First night out in three months.
Everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong.
12 volt system has a gremlin that comes and goes. Good fun chasing that tomorrow,,,, not.
Forgot some of my gear,,,,
Staked a tire,,,,

But, persistence paid off, when this feral showed up way off in the distance.
I watched it for 3/4 hr ,,,,,,, and luck was with me cos it gradually worked its way toward me.

Finally I was in a comfortable distance,,,,,,,,, so I turned its lights out.

I had seen this one several times in the past, but never had a good opportunity.
The genes must be persistent, cos I've shot three that looked almost identical within about two kilometer radius.

I hate the idea of poisoning anything. ESP when other more humane options are available Trap and shoot and dump and say nothing is the way to go

Pretty sure it's an old wives tale OB,
Tried it when I was a teenager,,,,, with zero results.
I definitely cannot say the same about using dogs tick drops on cats. DEVASTATING
Otherwise the enclosed pamphlet wouldn't have the warning.

Praps AP can weigh in on this one. Pretty sure he would have all the info.

We also have an increasing problem with cats.
Spent the afternoon looking out over the house paddock with the crow caller and the .17HMR

Seems cats also come in to the crow caller,,,,, got a big black one heading towards the sound.
It's got only half to three quarters length tail.

Went out again after dark with the thermal, and picked up this big ? "bobcat"
Its got no tail at all,,,,, and hasn't been faring too well. Its as scawny as an old grannie.

I never knew cats could jump so high (with a little bit of help)

Last night I went out for a night on the oinkers
It is a new property that I've never shot on before, and the owner said he wants the oinkers gone, cos they are destroying his crop.
The night started out with imminent threat of some rain, which must've upset the pigs, cos none turned up.

At 2-30 am very fine (but wetting) rain started, and I thought I'd pack it in.
Just as I was about quit,,,, a very large feral cat popped up into view from a very deep water course only 50 meters away.
I lined it up, and the moment it paused I touched the trigger.
As I'd come for pigs, the only rifle in my hands was the 300 Blackout with 220gr projectiles.

When that projectile hit, I saw what appeared to be a "vapor trail" come out the other side of the cat.
It jumped up approx eight feet in the air and was thrust sideways back into the creek gully where it had come from.
WOW,,,,,,,,,, I've never seen anything quite like it.

I'm thinking that due to the close range that projectile passed straight through like a red hot poker.
By the time I packed up,,,,,, I was saturated, and had no desire to go down into the mud and water looking for "Sylvester"

Could be wrong but I reckon cats do the great acrobat dance when shot because of their internal coil spring type muscular / ligament structure , not that I have ever dissected one to inspect .....was with a mate up cape York once in the middle of nowhere and we had bows, cat strolling along towards us as chilled as could be rarely running into humans so not wary or cautious at all. My mate released his arrow at very close range. At the sound of the string that cat jumped up in the air within a milli second and the arrow clean missed. That’s one incredibly fast reaction ....I think they are born to jump and bounce
