Colt series 80 9mm bending ejector

G'day guys, I'm wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how to stop this from happening.

I've recently bought a second hand colt 1911 series 80 9mm. I've put around 250 rounds through it (some federal, magtec, ppu but mainly geco)

So in those 250 shots it jammed the empties 5 or so times and that seems to have led to it bending the ejector twice

I'm not sure but judging by the marks left on the shells that jam I think this is how the empties are bending the ejector. (Attached photo) Both times it bent down and to the left until it jammed the slide.

Anyone seen this before?

It is likely that the ejector is too long. Maybe the previous owner fitted a replacement without trimming it to correct length or it was an attempt to fix weak ejection without replacing the recoil spring.

Try ejecting a live round. Does it catch on the ejection port? If it does, shorten the ejector until live rounds eject consistently without catching in the ejection port.

If you have ejection problems after correct adjustment of the ejector length you can install a lighter recoil spring to tune ejection consistency.

The length in the pic below works 100% - extra long or extended ejectors are not required unless it is for very light loads that barely cycle a slide.

I think ob1 has it, your ejector is ridiculously long.

Thanks guys for the help guys!

So I straightened the ejector, and planned to put 4 mags through it to see how it would go. Didn't even finish the 3rd mag before it was so bent the slide couldn't close.
Took it home, straightened it out and cut it down.
This arvo I used my 5 mags to put 150 rounds through it, not a single empty jammed.

So hopefully that is my trouble sorted, will head to action match with it on Sunday
