Definition of Barrel Length

This handgun has a barrel length of 4.5" and 5.5" with compensator.
Why all states except VIC take the length of compensator into account?
Is there any special law or provision for it?


Since I live in Victoria, is there any practical way for me to buy this mark IV?
Does it meet the condition of ' being designed for competition target shooting'?

Barrel length is measured from the crown to the bolt face.

If the comp is not welded in place then it would be removable. As long as it is permanent then it should comply. That looks like it needs to be removable to strip the barrel out?

Surely you're not suggesting that all States and Territories should have uniform law.
Wouldn't that be a novel idea.

It's most likely an oversight in the other states that they haven't put it onto a banned list and initiated confiscation and it's likely only a matter of time before they do. Likely a result of decisions being made based on pictures and product summaries rather than actually handling the firearms, the brief product description wrongly quotes barrel length including compensator and doesn't mention that it's removable

It would be difficult to argue that it's a designed or adapted as a target pistol as it holds 10 rounds and ISSF pistols are only permitted to hold 5, it also wouldn't have a compensator as they are not permitted on ISSF rimfire pistols.


I have one with the larger Volquartsen barrel and it's amazingly accurate and very lightweight, I'd suggest going for that model as there's functionally no difference between the two and almost no weight difference.

The reason will likey be because the comp can be removed, making the barrel shorter - 4.5" (114mm) doesn't comply.
Ring a gunshop that does pistols and ask, or email Firearms and ask them direct.
I would have to check the legislation for other states.
If they offer a longer barrel for it you could try importing one.

That's the last thing we need. Even the larger states could have regional laws, say North of the 20th.
