QLD Just had a win

*** WEAPONS LICENSING NEW "SWAP" POLICY EFFECTIVE ***

This email was received from QLD Weapons Licensing this morning:

Good morning,

***Effective today – 21/08/2014***

The Ministerial Weapons Advisory Panel has submitted a request to allow licence holders to swap a like-for-like firearm/weapon of the same type (e.g. Same category, action, named calibre and cartridge) through a Queensland firearms/weapons dealership without the need for a Permit to Acquire (PTA).

Stage 3 of the Weapons Licensing Management System is required to give full effect to this option, however, an interim solution is available whereby Queensland firearms/weapons dealers can submit and forward a Form 10 to Weapons Licensing (WL) advising of the acquisition of the old firearm/weapon and the disposal of the replacement firearm/weapon by either Fax or E-mail.

The object of this policy, and the reason it can be released, is to maintain the status quo of the licence as the licensee has already provided a genuine reason for the firearm/weapon they are replacing.

That might be one of Australia's most sensible gun laws. Hope it catches on in other states

A win for Common sense ,I love this forum I had no idea this had even been passed !!!Now mobs like Barretta will have to lift their game and keep a little more stock on hand
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

The only thing I see is dealers taking advantage and increasing costs for such transactions. They did not include Police Stations only dealers able to do this transaction? Keep us posted (other states) and let us know how it unfolds

Our current Police minister said she would try to this for us ... I wrote her about it later on and the cops blocked it, sighting some obscure president "one firearm of the same action, caliber might not be as good for the genuine reason you have stated."

I'll just have Victoria's PTA system where new PTAs only take a couple of hours thanks.

Still costs you $30 though. If we could just not need a PTA for firearms in a class we already own firearms in that would be ideal

lol True as Im sitting here mate, then it's a 45-55 day wait, thats for an addition. If it's a new license they wont even start the process for 30 days, so it could be up to 85 days for a new license.

I used to think we needed uniform firearm laws across the country but not if there's a chance we'd end up with that bulls**t

Sorry to rain on this parade..... but it half achieves the aims of certain lobby group - seeking to not increasing or minimize the increase in firearm numbers 'out there' in the community... don't get sucked in fellas, keep your 308, 30-06 or whatever you have AND BUY ANOTHER ONE OR TWO!

You know how the deal will turn out when you trade in with a dealer...... and for the sake of a pta application.

Easier ptas, even the 2hr permits are not what we want; permits ARE NOT NECESSARY ONCE WE ARE LAWFULLY LICENSED TO POSSESS CARRY AND USE A FIREARM.
They're simply a step towards the abolishment of the current licensing system and the introduction of one based on common sense.

THAT is the message to your representatives and remind them that those who enforce the laws should not create or drive the laws as they have a conflict of interest when it comes to lawful firearm possession.....

They're simply a step towards the abolishment of the current licensing system and the introduction of one based on common sense.
