Combination shotgun/rifles

I'm looking to get a new shotgun, but either I ticked the wrong box or the registry made a mistake and I now have a PTA for a shotgun/rimfire combination rifle.

There doesn't seem to be much to do other than apply for a new PTA, but now I have this one too.

I've never really given these types of firearms much thought other than they seem kind of pointless to be honest. It seems a straight pull and a 22 are far more useful.

Do they have any practical use? What are the options and are there any 'good' ones? I might be talked around seeing as I already have the permit.

Chiappa double badger. .22lr/.410, .22WMR/.410, or .22lr/20ga.
They make a .243win/.410 too but that probably won't work with the PTA you have.

Not sure about the double badger. I can't tolerate the price of 410 or 20ga ammo.

The M6 has some potential though in 22 mag/12ga. Add a couple of barrel inserts and it opens up some interesting options.

They seem a bit expensive for what they are though.

I think they’re great for touring, camping. Many of them break down for easy storage, packing.
Might come in handy, might not. Just a good thing to have in your kit.
A combination of 410 and 22wmr is a lot of combinations really, considering the variety of shells and cartridges available.
For close range at least everything from birdshot to around 40g hollow point to a rifled slug. Pack a few of each and you’re well covered.
Multi tool rather than regretting leaving one or the other at home.

The most common combo is the Savage 24 series.
Mostly 22LR or 22Mag + 410. There have been a few 30-30 + 20g, 222+20g and 223 + 20g on usedguns.
Tikka also made a nice one. Better quality, and priced accordingly.
Handy, dual purpose "tools".

The German old school combo guns are notoriously expensive and come in esoteric calibres.

I bought the first Rossi Matched Pair takedown in NSW I suspect; FAR ballistics needed to test / inspect before releasing it. It is a 223/12 gauge combo.

The 223 is single shot and shoots sub MOA I love it, its my favourite rifle, so much fun and yeah u can break it down it down into a backpack.

The 12 gauge kicks like a Tiika Lite 300 Win Mag on steroids. I enjoy shooting it about as much as watching Gilmour Girl episodes.

I have seen them still being advertised in other states. The gold class for combo rifles are the old Savage 24's (not to be confused with the more modern 42 I think it is). BRNO made a 12 gauge/308 combo but they are rare, same for Tikka I think.

The savages have a reputation for not being regulated very well. The brno and tikkas are meant to be better.

I love it but if you push me, a combo In 12g and 7mm to 308 will cover everything.
