QLD weapons licensing phone call. Nervous...

Post by TikkaT3.223 » 25 Aug 2014, 12:59 pm

Just called weapons licensing and they said that ill be getting a letter within this week, a "correspondence" and I have to fill it out and send it back to them before my license can be processed.. Recons she couldn't tell me what it was about over the phone.

She said "just fill it out and send it back to us and it'll be fine".

Asked a few of my mates that have their licenses and they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Called weapons licensing back and spoke to someone else, and he said that my license is being processed now and being signed off and they just need that document sent back to them and they can continue the process. He wouldn't tell me what it was though. They were bother being extremely cagey around that subject. It didn't sound good.. :/

:o

Anybody have any experience with anything like this?

I am in QLD. I have had previous criminal history before i turned 18. I am 19 now. My SSAA member told me at the safety course that I can legally and honestly say that I have had no previous criminal, mental, or drug history, if it was all before I turned 18.

I think you might have something to worry about.

Just because you turned 18 doesn't negate criminal history prior in my view. Depends on your own personal history and usually if you have run foul of the law it carries for 5-7 years. You'll just have to wait for your letter, then worry if it hints at what you have just said.

A SSAA Member doesn't make him/her a Lawyer and what Weapons Licencing says will probably be the verdict.

Best of luck.

Yeah thats true :(

I'm just hoping it's one of those "Please explain why you didn't say something" letters, rather than a license revocation... :/

If your letter is along the lines of your previous history, why you didn't answer the questions or really anything that's not quite straight forward I would think seriously about getting proper legal advice, from a Solicitor before you answer anything.

From what you have said I think it would better be safe than sorry seeking proper advice.

Could just be a please explain, I had to do one because I didnt mention a previous public nuisance charge which was only for bein drunk and windin up in queen street mall, apparently people around didnt like that. Just be careful in filling it out cause it states in the paper work that its an offence to lie on licence application. Just ring them when you get the correspondence and they should tell you what its about.

Not having a go here, but what does your view have to do with anything?

As it stands (in QLD I'm certain, and as far as I know this is the same for all other states) if you're found guilty of a crime but no conviction is recorded as a juvenile, this can't be taken into account during any future proceedings against you as an adult (if there were to be any). For all intents and purposes you do not have a criminal record.

If as an adult you're asked do you have a conviction or criminal record 'no' is the honest answer.

Convictions can be recorded for juveniles and considered in future, but this is only done for serious crimes. The crimes I've read on in published sentencing statistics where a conviction was recorded against a juvenile were for things like attempted murder and aggravated assault.

If the women told him "just fill it out and send it back to us and it'll be fine" she obviously doesn't think it's that serious.

In any case, when you do a QLD license application it asks if you've ever been charged with an offence, even if you weren't convicted, so the situation is addressed there without getting caught up in any technicalities or loop holes.

Just saying 'your view' isn't helping OP and probably just causing undue stress talking about lawyers etc. You didn't even ask what the offence was. Could for be doing a whiz in the park for all we know.

I know it sounds like I'm having a go but honestly I'm not, just trying to be clear.

If he was a juvenile and the offence wasn't serious I expect he'll get his license.

Peace.

You make a good point..

I called the local cop shop yesterday and they said that I was never actually convicted of anything before the age of 17.

And as me saying 'no' for previous criminal history, then why the f*** are they getting their dick in a knot about it?

Well that's good news? No?

It'll take time for them to push their paperwork around but then you'll get your license hey?
