it all comes down to the type of hunting you do as well . you don't seem to have any deer rifles in your collection . might i suggest 7-08, 7x57 , 270 win . for something that really will do it all the 30-06 is hard to beat

i've used the swede on pigs , and i've found in my experience it's lacking in bore diameter for drt kills at times . oh, stuff still dies, but a wider bore drops stuff better . 6.5-06 from what i hear , takes things up a notch . the hornet is a sweet round , but i don't get to use mine so it's going down the road . not a great deal of foxes and rabbits in south east queensland i'm afraid.

I hate pork and dont go pig hunting so the x55 fits my needs. The ones I have come across that I have shot died on the spot tho. I use the hornet for sporting centerfire comps, goats and small game

6.5x55 is pretty popular in the north here for pigs must say. They even hit moose and elk in Europe with it, with the right bullet of course.

Good calibres mate. The above is the end of my collection now though, I've downsized and gone minimalist. I'll push the 44 to 175 yards with a scout scope on a good day and the 223 can head shoot anything else. Anything further gets to live another day

I would want at least one big bore. Why settle for five boring chambering. What can a 308 do that a 416 Rigby can't? Want to go long range, swap out the 416 barrel for a 300 Lapua Mag.

I was going to say hit something at a 1000 yards, but the Lapua has that covered in spades. Make a smaller hole or a bit less noise. Something special about big bores though - I have a 404 Jeffery.

Lever Action .357 rifle length, not a carbine.
Straight Pull 12G - Semi if you can get it.
6.5 Creed bolt action - potentially a Chassis for Competition and Stock for Hunting, Good enough where performance matters but factory ammo is available (when not in a shortage)
7mm SAUM (or other short action magnum) Light weight for hunting.

Only reason I wouldn't go for something bigger like the .338 or simmilar is I'm not in a position to hunt anything bigger than camel, I looked at this largely from what I currently own.

Tikka Varmint .223 - I have one that is predominantly used for target shooting. So accurate as a factory rifle. If I ever get a chance to chase dogs, roos etc it will do that incredibly well also.
Tikka Varmint 6.5x55 OR original Swede mauser - Time tested caliber in a modern action will do amazing things for longer range paper punching and going after the bigger game (if I ever get into that). The Old Milsurp is Mauser in this caliber are simply excellent rifles for all applications.
Lever action .357 - tremendously fun gun to shoot, plink with. Carbine comps with this at my local range are fun too. (this assumes pistol caliber powders and items are available for reloading). I recently owned on (Marlin 1892 CS) and sold it. I want another one
Bolt action .280Ack Imp - for reaching out long. A really nicely balanced 7mm that can achieve great performance without going into magnum dimensions and issues.
BA 22LR. Cheap, reliable, proven and a great plinker and bunny buster that you can shoot all day without draining your bank account.

22 lever: Lever so 22short and 22long can be used. Both for fun, small game.
357 lever: For carrying everywhere and getting lucky somewhere. Also, fun.
223 bolt: For everything and ammo prices.
270 bolt: For everything a bit bigger and cats.
12g (choose your own flavour): Because it'd be weird without one. Also, cats.

I dont think most blokes with a lever care more for the romance than the functionality. Maybe for americans and the cowboy action mob romance comes into it. Myself I like being able to drop pigs faster at close quarters than any other action type, having the easiest firearm type to scabbard ( and draw to fire) on a bike or ATV, being able to load subsonics for lower blast hunting( and still have a wide bullet diametre to do the work)

I tend to agree. Much prefer a bolt action,MUCH stronger action, more accurate,better extraction,and really bugger all slower for an ACCURATE second shot if you know what you're doing. Only thing I like better with a lever gun is generally they're lighter,the right ones are slimmer in the hand,and you can fit a lot of rounds in the pistol calibre ones.
