one of the engineers, who demonstrated his method to WAtoday, said he produced a street-level map complete with satellite imagery “in a few hours on a Friday night” by feeding it through publicly available software

One thing it highlights is gun owners seem to think the authoritys care about their privacy. We have that problem here as well the firearms data base has been breached more than once (that we know of) and a bin containing firearm owners private details was left at a disused police station it wasnt until a crims house was raided that anyone was aware that people other than the police had access to this private information. Kind of smells a bit like putting presure on us from all different angles.

What a HUGE COK UP

Rumours have it a few years ago the Victorian register was given to crims. Then there was a spate of farmers getting hit.

Actually parts of Registry, in one instance a woman working there was found to be living with a bike club member, nothing could be proven but at the same time a crim was picked up in Geelong with a "shopping list" of owners and dealers listing what guns they owned. Fortunately for us our Govt here in Vic (in perhaps the only issue they have right re: firearms) refuse to give any info to the media regarding firearm ownership density by locality such as WA do.

Civilians are no more likely to engage in criminal activity than police, or any other occupation for that matter.

Prosecution and conviction rates are lower for police officers but I suspect that's more to do with their reluctance to investigate or take action against each other.

Ok then maybe we should replace coppers and asio agents with civilians and save a few bucks .

The Registry was a ticking tine bomb right from its conception.

a; How many crimes has it solved ?
b; How many crimes has it created?

If b; is greater than a; it's probably high time it was scrapped, after all it was created for the sole purpose of solving crime :allegedly:

Irony: Police spokesperson claiming concerned licensed firearm owners are fear-mongering when complaining they have been identified on a map, handed to a partisan media outlet for the sole purpose of... creating fear

I wonder what would happen if I published the home address of police officers ?

Perhaps they would do a little "fear mongering" themselves?

What's the worst that could happen?
Could someone end up tied to a chair and set on fire?

Funny how in some circles, what the police Spokesperson said would be considered victim shaming, but strangely enough anything goes when attacking LAFO's
