okay, so i've got a 270 coming . i'm looking for opinions on a projectile as a general use load for pigs (large and small) , and something that will handle reds. i was thinking about a 140sst or 140 accubond with 2209 or 2213sc . anyone got any 270 insight ?

This is my load right now and I have had good luck on white tail deer imr 4831 is more popular then imr 4064 but my gun likes it

In Australia 2209 and 2213 will be your friend in this calibre split the difference with a 140 grain.
Fair while ago I used to load the 270 Winchester for a friend of mine with 130 grain Woodleigh protected points with 09 cannot remember the charge moved house twice since then lot of things went missing but he never lost a samba out of 13 so they definitely done the job.
I do remember they chronographed just over 3100 feet per second they did group into an inch easy for three shots out of his tikka which was purchased around 2010 if large pigs and large reds are in the mix I would go a tough projectile the SST that I used to run out of a 308 a long time ago to me were fairly explosive and lacked penetration.

yeah, what your telling me ties in with what i've read elsewhere . with the sst , the 150 sst is supposed to be the best of both worlds, good expansion on light game with enough weight for heavier game . but i'd like to run 140 gn as a compromise between flat and fast and having a bit of weight in reserve for penetration. the 140 accubond is well regarded, but hard to find at the moment . woodleigh's are unobtainable . 130 partitions would do , i guess . but their not cheap. i think the current sst are a little stouter than earlier production

i appreciate your reply wrenchman . i understand white tails are a light deer , not much stouter than a large goat . i'm trying to settle on a "do all" load ( if there is such a thing ) ,for the heavier game i may encounter , so i was thinking a good 140 gn projectile .

I will say one of the most overlooked bullets on the market are the Speer grand slams I can remember years ago if you were hunting Sambar they were the only thing going speer also have brought out a new rifle bullet the gold dot been hearing some very good things about them from New Zealand also a bonded bullet and both of those are very cheap compare two others on the market

Not entirely true,some whitetails are huge. Think more along the lines of fallow deer

I use 90 speer tnt for soft stuff. I have no surface blow ups despite the 3550 fps For pigs i use 130 factories from ppu. I think just a conventional non fancy 130/140 from a 270 is more than enough for a solid red stag But i must say i have never shot one. Only shot a hind for food. Saw plenty of red stags browsing in the scrub

i have not shot the 140 i have shot the 150 and have read guys swear buy it for elk i would have to pull my book out for the 140 but i would have to say if a good bullet is used and you put it were it is supposed to it will work fine.
i have shot hogs with the 130 and it has worked fine 250 lbs to 300 lbs for a good white tail buck in my area

your white tail are bigger than i expected . i suppose with the velocity of the 270 130gn projectiles cause a lot more hydrostatic shock on game than i appreciate with a 130 gn . i try to play it safe by using heavy projectiles in most calibers , i've heard the 140's are a nice sweet spot for all round use. that would depend on the type/brand of projectile too i guess . o'connor supposedly used 130 partitions for everything
