Ms Evans says a woman is five times more likely to be murdered if her abuser has access to a gun.
That's one hell way to spin stats to suit an agenda.
Assuming she's basing that on the number of unmurdered women vs murdered women in WA and then comparing that to the number that were mostly married to police officers or security guards ???

So potentially it's left to a doctor to decide who remains licensed and who is mentally unfit.

And I'm sure with the doctors own code of conduct, there's no way known a letftard leaning firearms hating doctor would insert a single scrap of bias when making their decision.

It may prevent a few whackos obtaining licences I guess, but it will prevent many shooters from seeking help for mental health issues, they'll probably just suffer in silence making their condition worse.

Hopefully shooters will have a say in which doctor they see, hopefully that nasty looking man hater Alican Evans has no involvement. How the f*** people like that get to weigh in to firearms conversations is beyond me, I'd hope she's also throwing her weight around when it come to women who compulsively lie about DV in order alienate children from their fathers.

I think you’ll likely seek your own doctor as that’s the easiest way to put the cost on you.

But theres potentially a much bigger issue here. American trends are now about survivors, family suing. And they’ll work back from who sold the gun to who manufactured it etc.
The doctor looks positioned as the first step of the processing in obtaining a gun, to put it bluntly.
Now if someone certified sane and of sound mind should commit the unconscionable, who’s responsible for that and perhaps liable.

It’s not fair and reasonable legislation in my opinion. Does not put the onus fairly on the applicant who should be a hundred percent accountable for safe ownership and use.
I hope it gets challenged.
I think nowadays we have to become single issue voters, no matter what we think of the other policies the party holds.
It’s the only way to counteract our detractors because that’s how they vote.
It’s not easy because there’s going to be people you vote for that you don’t like. But it’s necessary.
I’d even go as far as to refuse to vote if I don’t have a pro firearm choice in the candidates and wear the fine. Because your only option is to vote against yourself

Honestly I think it can be a great thing and help prevent rural suicides.
Nobody wants a suicidal or homicidal individual having access to firearms.
So it can be legislation that everyone can support. It’s the type of legislation we should have and apply across the board no exceptions. Because sadly we lose a lot of professionals to suicide. Valued members of our community particularly veterinarians and police officers.
It’s a reasonable ask and gives confidence in the community that someone legitimately carrying a firearm is not something to freak out about. That person is well vetted and not a threat.

But an exemption from liability won’t be enough. This lady knows her stuff. She’s well familiar with the failings in the US.
When they have a mass shooting event the after effects are lifetime for the immediate community. The town never recovers.
There is a lot of hurt and anger and blame.
Psychiatrists who have been identified by the media as treating the gunman before he went of the rails. Their lives and their families, their careers are destroyed. They get hounded by the media and death threats from the public. As if they were the ones who should have prevented it.
So miss what’s her face could be homing in on this maybe ?

I hope it’s done well and I hope we can make it work. I think you should be able to present a clear bill of mental health without the practitioner necessarily needing to know who’s requesting it or why.
And likewise the practitioner should fail an individual who presents as unstable without needing to know the who’s and why’s
