Scope mount and rings for CZ .22 452 special

Post by Gogetem » 07 Sep 2014, 12:23 pm

Hi,

Sorry for reposting this agian as i had incorrectly posted this earlier under off topic..(quite new to Enough Gun)

After a bit of research and lot of convincing to the missus, I will be buying my first rim fire rifle .22 CZ.
I know this should've been my first rifle, however I started with a shotty for clays few years ago and recently a .308 for general hunting
I love shooting my Tikka at the range and some times at mates farm, however, I am still quite confused with scope adjustment with windage/elevation

I am excited and looking forward to buying a great rifle like CZ soon and hope to learn proper rifle shooting/scope adjustment without having to spend heaps on ammo. However, I am quite confused in relation to what scope mounts/rings will best fit a CZ in 3/8 dove tail.

When I bought my tikka the gentleman at the gunshop recommended I buy Leopold standard base and medium height rings to go with my Leopold scope for a good fit which I love however I don't get a good cheek wield ( I am medium height) and I don't want the same problem with my new rifle.

I have purchased a Hawke 3-9x40 scope (Hawke AO) for the rifle in 1" tube

CZ makes rings in 11mm only, i am unsure if this will fit a 3/8 groved dovetail

Also, will the spare Tikka T3 rings fit on CZ 452 special?

Any advise will be much appreciated

You'll have to measure the dovetail on the top, mine is the 'American' and has 3/8, most other models have 11mm, there is a chart on their website that indicates what rings you'll need, but you're better off just measuring it. There are quite a few brands that make 'rimfire' rings in 11mm and 3/8. As for height you're better off taking the scope and rifle into a gun shop and trying what height suits your combo, buy the one that fits best. Some scopes have a huge front bell (outside measurement) even tho they are the same objective size (inside measurement). Some will sit back further, or need to be as far forward as possible. Remember to check eye relief on the max magnification. The T3 rings probably won't fit. If you put a pic/weaver rail on it you will have much more ring options. Bolt throw is the limiting factor with the CZs, you may need high rings just to get clearance for the bolt.

Thank for the tips Yoshie, will try out different rings and mount the rifle this time to see the eye alignment before I end up buying rings this time.

Kind regards

While you muck around with getting your scope organised you should have a I at the iron sights. I used mine for nearly 3 years until I scoped it really teaches you how to shoot at a distance.

I would love to shoot with iron sights especially in the beginning but that's additional another $120 for the next model up with sights and I am on a tight budget(sigh) also, I don't like the Euro style stock on the higher model as I may have sight alignment problem with the scope in future. I will have another look at the stock though at the gun shop this weekend before I put my money on one.

I'm a big fan of buying off the net to save a few dollars, but this is one case were I'd use the services of your local gun shop. They should have a good stock of rings for you.

Some times they aren't the most knowledgeable, buy they may not be shooters or shoot a different discipline to you. They might shoot shotguns and you shoot rifle, none of them tend to shoot pistols.

Millet scope rings are the go.
true 3/8th - they actually screw all the way up on the cz's where a lot of other 3/8th rings dont
Just work out what height you want.
I get mine direct from the states but this link is Aussie

You mean there is not the gap between the top and bottom half of the ring like most have?

Hi All,

I finally picked up me new CZ special 452 last Saturday. Did check out few rings in its original packing, didn't get a chance to put any rings on the gun/scope and mount them as yet. I am heading to states next month where I've ordered my scope from (Wanted to buy the gun before hand as I would've surely used my saving there). I will most likely head down to the range there and will try to check out some rings at a local gunshop( no shortage of gun shops in good old Texas- lol)

Once again thanks for all the tips, you guys have been great help :)

Can't wait to come back in Nov, fit the scope and head down to the range or mates farm to try out my latest addition

Cheers

Thanks Pawnee, this was one of the rings the gun smith suggested to me as well In Medium height which looked pretty solid.
