Are baggage handlers licensed to handle your firearms?

Questions about Western Australian gun and ammunition laws. W.A. Firearms Act 1973.

Are baggage handlers licensed to handle your firearms?

Post by shazz » 31 Aug 2014, 10:28 am

Does anyone know the answer to this?

If you're flying with firearms/ammo they have to go in your checked luggage so people at the airport will be handling them, would there be a licensed baggage handler on staff for handling firearms going through the luggage process or do they not need it?

Just wondering.

Are couriers and postal workers? Once it's locked in a box its just a package.

I think it is section 6 of the firearms act 1996 that says- Police,Prison officers,Military (including cadets) do not need a firearm licence.

Those who carry a firearm in the course of their work eg storemen, delivery drivers, customs officer who seizes weapons, etc do not need a firearm licence.

If your flying I believe you will remove the bolt in front of the captain who will carry it with him and return it to at your destination. Please correct me if you know for sure.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

I can't tell if you're joking?

I thought pilots cabins were like fort knox now after 9/11.

Not allowed anywhere near them or the blokes inside.

You just take the bolt out and have it in the locked container when you check it.

Check out these for flying with guns.

Try walking up to the cabin with any part from a firearm, even if it's the bolt to had over, you'd probably get tazed by an air marshal these days.

It's also worth mentioning that not every firearms case is permissible for air travel. There are only a few allowed. I use a Pelican 1750 for my rifles. I love it! Worth the money IMHO.

As said the guys are handling just baggage not your firearms.

But I don't trust anyone nowadays and recently flew with firearms and ammo but I removed the stocks and taped them all up in towels etc and put them in a padded normal hard suitcase so it does not look like an obvious firearms container.

Deservedly so looking at a few (not all obviously) of the handlers behaviour.

Remember a few years ago a guy had a camel outfit in his sealed bag, and he looked out the window of the plan and one of the bag chuckers was wearing it and driving around on the runway?
