Cleaning brass / firearms the old wives tale ways

Maybe a stupid question?

In a pinch, would one of the old wives tale ways of cleaning metal like lemon and baking soda?

Doing brass with it?

Cleaning your firearm?

Or would you end up blowing yourself up?

How much of a pinch could you be in that you need to do it with lemon?

Just go one round without cleaning it I'd say...

You wouldn't get that stuff anywhere near my shooting gear.

You'd be much better off just skipping one clean of the rifle or tumble of the brass than using anything like that.

Just give it a wipe with a dry cloth to get any thick build up off as best you can.

If you were really stuck I'd head to Bunnings, not the pantry.

Today I discovered my ultrasonic cleaner has packed it in so I tried boiling my 223 cases in water, vinegar, cream of tartar and a squirt of dishwashing liquid. It did quite well on the outside but the primer pockets and the inside of the cases remained fairly dirty.

I don't know about lemon, the acid?

Vinegar and baking soda might be harmless enough though and work?
