Scope recommendations for Marlin XT22

Post by Clarky75 » 08 Sep 2014, 9:11 am

Hi All,

I own a Marlin XT 22lr which I use mostly for range work and hunting small game.

When I purchased the rifle I was told my the local gun shop to keep the standard scope that come pre fitted as it's not worth spending too much on a scope for the 22. It's a 3-9 x40 no name looks like a cheap Chinese one to me. I really want to look at upgrading the scope. The glass is not clear at all I didn't realise how much difference until the guy next to me at the range had a vortex scope which wasn't too expensive was way clearer and night and day to my scope. What would you guys recommend obviously being a cheap rifle I don't want to spend 1k on a scope but happy to pay for an upgrade. What do you guys use on your 22lr and any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks all

Clarky

I have a 150 dollar Burris Rimfire 3-9x40 and I have no problems with 100m shots.

I am pretty happy with the Nikko Stirling 3-9x40 AO that is on my .22.
I usually have it set on 4x or 6x.

I plan on getting the same in 4-12x50 AO for my .223 as an interim measure until can afford something Leupold.

I have looked through a Leupold 3-9x40 VX1 and a VX2 and they are nice and crisp. The VX2 was better in low light.

What is your budget and is variable zoom important to you?

A few hundred bucks will get you a Leupold VX1 which are perfectly fine.

3-9x or 4-12x

More if you want to spend a little more. No need to go anywhere near $1k though.
