Im not sure what it is your using. But the bigger the lump of brass the bigger the heat sink. Small will be faster

Yeah. Even after holding it in the flame for around 2 min it didn't seem noticeably softer trying to bend with pliers.

So the idea that lower temp for longer time is correct I guess from what you're saying?

If I had some cases I was willing to donate to this cause I would try further. Might have some 22 laying around. Just can't turn it on the candle flame due to the blackening so have to cut up.

At least I know you can solder with a candle if desperate!

Ive found that the lazer temp measurers arent that accurate at temp readings on brass, well the 2 ive tried anyway. It seems they dont like shiny surfaces.

Couple of years ago I annealed 6 boxes of brand new Remington 444 marlin brass, Was more than 40yrs old, came up a treat.

I've annealed some 500 S&W brass recently as its expensive and unavailable and Id like to think it will last for ever.

I'm also running a decent crimp and rifle pressure loads approaching 60K psi

If you need to bell mouth the case and then crimp then yes it is a good way to extend the life your cases. Those operations will rapidly work harden the case mouth leading to cracking.
Especially true if the cases are expensive, sometimes hard to find and are used in a tube magazine rifle with decent recoil.
A good example is a 444 Marlin.

I anneal brass about every second firing. Lube inside of the neck as well as outside of case when FLS. I get pretty good, consistant ammo. But have never measured the amount of head space/shoulder bump.

I'll have the gadgets to do it pretty soon. SIL is making it for me. Put the order in 2 weeks ago.

I'll find out how I'm going next time I size a few.

I anneal the brass for just about all that I reload for. Anything over a minimum length goes through the AMP unit. Shorter stuff that is worth the effort to anneal goes through a Skip's annealer.
I don't both with 9mm as it's readily available as once fired or new. Similar for 38Spl though I am thinking about putting it through the Skippy.
The straight wall stuff gets done every firing and to date I'm on around the 8th or 9th reload. I run 500rd lots of brass for my Single Action comp guns, when I get to the last 100, the 400 fired is put through the washer, cleaned and then through the AMP. I'm yet to see any signs of mouth splits beginning.
