Where does the lost meat go?

Hi guys,

Shooters who are hunting for meat often talk about using a small but suitable bullet for hunting to prevent meat loss.

Where is this lost meat actually going though?

If you put a heavy destructive bullet into the shoulder of a deer isn't the meat still there?

Is it lost because it actually blows out and is gone from the animal all together? or do they call it lost if it's just torn up and damaged?

It's more to do with a lot of mangled, bruised meat with lots of bone, hair, skin and dirt all mashed through it that you have to cut away.

There is some true loss on the exit wound with meat removed from the body.

Noisy is on the money though, it's more about waste from it being a ragged unusable mess.

Its what is generally referred to as "PINK MIST"

Recently on a full on frontal head shot, my field of view consisted of Pink and White mist.
It tends to occur when HPs at 4,000 fps meet their target.

I'm certain my hollow points upon impact hit with such force a small black hole is created seemingly magically removing a fist sized lump of meat and bone, so in answer I believe lost meat....lost in space!!!

You might just have something there in relation to a "Black Hole"

Recently I blackholed the neck of a big Hare when spotlighting with my partner.
She walked out to get the Hare, and called back saying "you blew its head off",,,,,,, then on the way back to the ute she bent over and said "here it is"

The head was 5 metres away from the body, and still intact.
I guess the neck just vapourised.

At least the greenies couldn't argue about a "slow painful death"
