got this rifle under 1k, about the cost for barely the peep sight, so the rifle and the modified 10rd mag also raised front sight for free
and the barrel is good the rifling is sharp...

Brilliant deal! Haven't seen a GF sight on a K98k before. The Yellow range ring should work fine for 7.62 loaded to 2600fps or over,

What the history of the mag conversion ??

Front or rear sight? Rear is a Swedish GF (Gevarsfaktoriet) sight made at the State Arsenal Carl Gustafs, The front is a common blade type with protector as found on Israeli Mausers but SHV said it has a higher blade fitted to suit the diopter.
EDIT: Mag appears to be a shortened std K98k Trench cut down to 10 rnds to comply with our rules
