WA Foxes have the last laugh

Post by mchughcb » 08 Mar 2024, 4:49 pm

Two mates just texted me saying the new laws will bring an end to the red card weekend's. Each person must get signed permission from the property owner and submitted 28 days prior to the police in Perth.

As the Muppet said on TV - get another hobby.

yeah perfect thing to do now that the same state government has sold out the native animals to iluka and the likes who have cleared hundreds of thousands of hectares of old growth jarrah forests in search of bauxite and mineral sands and lithium. Meanwhile fox and cat numbers have never been so high, extinctions are being made inevitable by clearing and urbanization, feral dog numbers are long since out of control, so now they stack atop it means to destroy even more native populations... fkn brilliant

Labor are control freaks, I know people who have long dealt with McGowan before he was premier and all of them say he is a prize c***.

I have never met a single member of the labor party in any part of this country who don't have a belief that big government and big control and restrictions are the best policy for EVERYTHING. Labor will never stop. again the people that vote for them are the stupidest c*** alive

damn straight, but wait....

now you are just using the "there is no good side" strawman - typical labor supporter 2024

I am sick mostly of labor supporters because they are the least genuine, most conniving and least trustworthy of the lot. they all have some romantic idea of the labor party being beyond reproach and always have a million excuses for the very real corruption and nepotism and cronyism that labor entertains daily, they point at the same things in Liberal and act like its a big "Gotcha" but when you shine the light on their favourite socialists, they get extremely upset, start either attacking you personally or screaming "BuT LiBeRaLs" at the top of their lungs, they have a complete and utter ineptitude to taking any responsibility for the corruption, constant ******, and idiocy of the Labor party and what is more most of them are such sycophants that they dont care about the rampant and ongoing authoritarian garbage Labor push cos "it doesn't affect most people" whilst the same time as complete hypocrite assholes they berate people for not siding with their constant barrage of pet minority movements and causes.

Labor supporters are literally so inept at life they would rather everyone eat a s**t sandwich by choosing them or liberal rather than looking for new ways to govern the country.

I think they are all oxygen thieves and willfully repugnant.

The Liberal supporters on the other hand, never seem to o out of their way to carry on about much of anything and if you point out the misdeeds of the Liberal party, corporate cronyism being the most evident, they just shrug and acknowledge it in some remark like "yes well money talks and bs walks" or "we all know thats how the world works". Which is s**t too, I hate it, but at least they don't spend a week carrying on about the opposition instead of accepting the reality of what theyre upto

I have never voted Labor though I have voted Liberal in the distant past. I vote for independents usually. There are more than two sides, there is no reason to vote for either of the majors. As long as people keep voting for either of them we will never break their stranglehold over our government.

The Regulations haven't been finalised yet as the Act hasn't passed.

So the 28 day period for property letters is just Chinese whispers

Aww sorry OB. I will try to be more flippant in future. Or should that be anti- establishment?

To be real serious for a moment, I love the comments where people say that foxes have virtually exploded in numbers, or even increased. They can't.

This time of the year young foxes leave their natal areas. They settle in vacant territory. So if you were diligently removing resident adult foxes, you will find there are new ones taking up residence.

Not an increase in numbers, just an increase on your patch.

Yeah the 28 days thing is odd. Especially since they were touting that the new online property letter thing would be more streamlined.

Though it doesn’t surprise me given that they are talking about refusing the ability to issue more letters past a certain point. So if each authority has to be given and manually reviewed by a human then it makes sense they won’t be instant.

Just goes to show the flaw was never with the property letter/authoroty system at all, just the police’s own policy of demanding certain acreage for certain calibres.

Under the old system permission could be given instsntly, in writing or verbal, revoked just as easily and if someone is being dangerous or giving you reason to revoke their authority you can trespass them and call the cops.

Now you’ll need to wait for that revocation to be processed online and you can’t simply give someone authority to come next door and shoot foxes/pigs the next day.

What’s the red card weekend? A fox shooting comp ? Takes place wherever u are already hunting ? So if u hear about a red card event 5 weeks away , and you get your permission to hunt organised in time all legit … can u still participate in the event ? Sounds like unessecessary paperwork

Don't live there so only limited knowledge.

However, seems to me changes will make shooting/hunting more difficult/onerous. If I'm correct many will just toss it in and get another hobby/sport, perhaps fishing, gold detecting, who knows. People have hobbies and sports to relax/enjoy, not to add stress/grief to their lives. Some simply can't afford additional expenses, OAP for example.

The thing is there will be flow on effects, many difficult to predict.

More pests is the obvious one.

Personally I think the industry will simply die in W.A.

As it is now, I won't travel to/through WA. Its just off the agenda. Too onerous to pass through the state with a rifle.

I can understand a permit to buy a rifle in west oz but a permit to shoot on a property only after you have a letter writing and u have to do this 28 days prior and then the police tell u it’s ok to go and do it . It does sound ridiculous.. we are so used to calling the owners and ask if we can visit for a few days. That’s how it’s always been. Waste of police resources too. Surely they would rather be doing something useful for the community

I had interactions with WA Firearms branch in 2015, and it wasn't pleasant. Up until the early 2000's they were terrific and would go out of their way to help you navigate the ridiculous laws and stay compliant. Even the 2003 handgun buyback was a relatively pleasant experience. I think they now believe their only purpose in life is to remove all firearms from the community and save the world. I recommend never conversing with them as they're just looking for something they can trip you up on.

I think people with safe queens that simply got firearms on their open license via a property letter to own them and don't actually have anywhere to shoot will end up having to dispose of them or will otherwise struggle with finding grounds for a renewal - if you want to own guns but don't shoot them, thats what a collectors license is for

If you actually hunt on the reg, then nothing will change. You just have some more administrative work every year.

Does it suck that I can't just keep my little red Elders notebook with written signed and dated authority to shoot in my ute or bag, yeah.

There is allot of talk about CCTV on safes and apps/QR codes being talked about, but I don't see any of this being possible to implement rurally where there isn't internet/cell coverage. When this was bought at up at one of the consultation sessions I am told WAPOL's response was "starlink works, doesn't it?"

There is a petition up and running regarding these crappy WA firearm laws.

I suggest all WA firearm owners need to get on line and sign it ASAP. It's currently up to 28k and just a few days left.

What about Western Australians that enjoying hunting in other states? They need a WA property letter to allow Hunting on their licence so they can use them elsewhere.

Over here I require an alarm system to protect my safes but it doesn't have to be monitored - just a very basic flashing light and a siren. I inadvertently triggered the damned thing last month and the girls down at the house heard nothing, totally useless in a rural environment.
