W W GREENER !@ GAUGE MUZZLE SIZE

Hi, guys Just working on a Greener SxS with 30-inch tubes On measuring the muzzle end inside diameters I get .700 inches and .701 inches. Seems pretty tight to me Anyone have an idea what the gun was made for?
Wall thickness is 0.55 inches and 0.57 inches Barrells are in perfect nick and the gun locks up tight The gun seems on the heavy side to me. The serial is 75393
The flats show BP -BV - NP proof marks The Rib has the Pall Mall address on it
any help appreciated Regards Xkkat

Surely you mean 0.055" as a 1/2" wall thickness would be a very heavy barrel

I'm by no means a shotty expert but at .700" I would say around 3/4 choke so for me a good all rounder for on the wing and rabbits out to 45 odd yards .

True Bore on 12g is 0.729" which varies according to maker, tradesman or apprentice boring the tube, wear etc etc, and .030" Constriction is taken to be 3/4 choke (US Improved Cylinder). deye243 is spot on, you have a 3/4 choked gun. Pattern the gun with a few loads, then go shoot your favourite game.

How heavy is the gun overall? Where does it balance? What model? 30 points of choke in both barrels suggests possibly a 'fowler or pigeon gun.
.055" is very heavy in the walls; my guess is you've taken a measurement somewhere closer to the breech than the thinnest parts of the tubes; or at the muzzles where the chokes are?

NP in the proof marks means its nitro-proofed. While .729in is nominally 12 gauge, many Greeners were over-bored to .740in ( I have one ) and with .700in muzzle is a Full-choke "standard game gun". Divide the weight of the gun by 96 and that is the shot weight it is meant to shoot, Tom.
