300wm subsonic with 2213sc

Wanting to try out subsonic loads with my 300wm.
I have a heap of 2213sc which I normally use and hopefully this is a suitable powder for subsonics?
Using 168gr nosler bt what powder weight should I start at and test?

No, I would _not_ use AR2213SC, you want a much faster powder, ideally Trailboss, otherwise try AR2206H. In a case that large though you might want to run a filler material to decrease the volume. Also seat the bullets as deep as possible for the same reason.

With AR2206H I would start at about 50% of max, say around 30gn, then work down using a chrono to get where you want. Keep an eye on ES, as you get more empty space in the case you can lose consistency which is when you'll want to look at filler, mag primers may improve it as well. If you don't need to go right down to subsonic I think you will have better results around the 1700-2000fps realm, especially using the Nosler BT as it will perform like a FMJ at such low velocities - brain/cervical spine shots only if you want clean kills. If you want boiler room shoots swap to a bullet designed to perform at low velocities.

In a fairly large case like the .300WM there is a very real risk of SEE (Secondary Explosion Effect) using very light loads of very slow powders - AR2213SC is a very slow powder. I would very strongly recommend not trying to load subsonic with SC2213SC.

I did a quick Google and found a guy claiming 12.5gn of N320 with 180gn bullets is subsonic for him. N320 is equivalent to AP50N, a very fast pistol powder, and no longer available. You may be able to find some N320 though if it has been imported recently.

AR2206H is sold in the US as H4895, so Google reduced or subsonic loads with H4895.

The case would probably hold somewhere around 60-70gn of FFFg? I would think that would push a 168gn bullet well over 2000fps? To go subsonic would require a lot of filler. I'm sure it's possible but I think it would just be a fiddly mess with poor results. It'd be an interesting experiment though, I wonder if anybody has ever tried BP in a .300WM. Stick with AR2206H I think.

My thoughts are that it is a fast burning powder that readily ignites (an important thing when it comes to secondary explosions) it also has a slower pressure curve. I would mix in a bit of filler something like coffee grounds or cornflour.

Yes, but you can't leave any empty space with BP, and the shouldered case doesn't let you push the bullet right down onto the small powder charge. I'm sure it can be done but I don't think it would simple.

BR is right. Don't be tempted. Fast powders only.
Here are some powder examples attached.
I'm using AS50n in the 30.06 but not subsonic. 16gr = abt 1600fps

2206H is only recommended 60% of max load and that will not give you subsonic. More like 2300fps, at a guess.
However there is some more info, I'll check it out.

Yep, I used AR2206H (H4895) to go subsonic with 180gn 8x57mm and 150gn .30-06 (with "max" loads around 48gn and 51gn with AR2206H these are the largest cartridges I load for). It works very well but Trailboss is (or was, since it's no longer made) much better, and way more efficient. Depending on barrel length, around 18gn gets me subsonic with 180gn bullets in 8x57mm. The .300WM is about 50% larger (depending on your brass dimensions) so I would think you'll find subsonic around the 30gn area with AR2206H and 180gn bullets.

I reckon AR2207 (H4198) might also be a good choice if you can't get AR2206H.

Going subsonic with heavier bullets tends to work better as the larger bullet reduces case capacity and requires more powder for the same velocity but you can load light bullets for subsonic enjoyment as well.

You could consider making some chamber adapters to allow you to fire subsonic 300BLK, but if you plan to shoot a lot of them it gets fiddly punching the empties out of the adapters to reload them.
