Winchester Wildcat 22lr ammo? Any good? 40gr Dynapoint

Post by Cooper » 19 Jul 2024, 8:10 pm

Has anybody tried the Winchester Wildcat 22lr ammo? Any good? I usually use the Winchester 555 (333 packs) which is the 36gr copper plated hollow point. The wildcat stuff has a 40gr copper plated dynapoint? Not sure what the difference between the Dynapoint and hollow point is. Just wondering is anybody has any experience with the wildcat stuff? Around the same price wise. Only available in the 500 round bulk pack from what I can tell.

22LR ammo performance is generally very firearm specific, even the high end target ammo only works well with some barrels.

However, I have consistently found that the worst ammo in every firearm I've tried has been Remington (Golden Bullet especially) but most Winchester rounds have been amongst the worst too (Except Powerpoint, that was actually very good in almost everything I tried.

I'd suggest buying a small batch and testing thoroughly before stocking up in bulk amounts.

Curiosity got the better of me a bought a pack of the Wildcats and some more 333’s stuff. Couldn’t upload the photos for some reason? The Dyna point is definitely a bit different compared to the hollow point. Kinda looks like pin prick compared to the normal hollow point Ammo. Any way I’ll try to do some accuracy testing and if they prove any good. Test on some rabbits. Probably won’t be this weekend as a bit wet

I will stand corrected but I think pics have to be 500kb or smaller .

The old Winchester Aussie Ammo was like that, just a dimple, and some of the European target ammo is similar.

As mentioned, you need to size the pics down, under 700kb I think.

Yeah I had to resize photos to add. Thanks. I struggled a bit. Ended up emailing to myself as it was the easiest way to do it I could think of. I’m sure there is an easier way.

Easiest way I know to shrink the pic is to text to yourself. Then download and include here in the normal way.

Generally they end up between 100 to 500kb.

I bought a box very cheap a couple of years ago for my son to run through the CZ515. They actually performed ok but there were a few fail to fires and there were plenty of loose projectiles and damaged cases in the box. They looked like seconds. I bought a second box as they were so cheap and it must of been a different batch as they were appalling. Winchester 22 is absolute crap and doesn't perform in any of my22's.

HI all

I bought some Federal 525 value pack ammo, in the blue box. ( FEDERAL CHAMPION VALUE PACK 1260FPS 22LR 36GR HP 525PKT)
It was on special at the time and I used it as a cheap plinker in my 22LR rifles.

In my Beretta M9 22LR pistol, it would too occasionally, not have enough power to cycle the action, so I resorted to using in my Smith and Wesson 617 revolver. It would sometimes spray the target, making the target look like it was hit by a shot gun.
