Hobby firearm engraving? Legalities?

I am a hobby engraver and am looking to get into firearm engraving. I can’t find any info on if I am allowed to engrave firearms or not (I have a current firearms licence so I am allowed to posses and handle them), I have contacted the police, police assistance line and the firearms registry and either know one knows or at least they arnt willing to give me an answer. The only thing I have found that might have any relevance is that there is a law stating that you need to be a gunsmith the modify a firearm but does engraving count as a modification? If anyone know where I can find the info I’m after I’d be very grateful.

You really will need confirmation from Police to be sure, but to me, engraving has nothing to do with modifying a firearm.

We are in vic not NSW so get some advice from someone in NSW .
I would keep bugging them until you get an answer.

I would have thought the only hurdle if any would be keeping the paperwork and storage in order for holding other peoples firearms.
I can recall signing a form for my local gunsmith so he store my firearm.

It will be very interesting as to the reply. They will know the legalities or put it in the "too hard" round filing cabinet.
