what setups were you taking out in the 70's and 80's

I only went out on foot, though I went out once with a pair of spotlighters in an HR sedan, that regularly got bogged in paddocks. My mum bought me a Suzuki GT550 touring bike from a friend and I was using that for hunting. I'd generally just park it on one of the roads around the farms and jump the fence as it had touring tyres on it that weren't much fun in wet clay and grass. I still prefer feet over wheels.

All the bs electrical gadgets, camp lights, torches that actually throw a good beam, cheap winches, awnings were nothing but a tarp strung up, swags have come a long way fron the zip up canvas bags I first used, fold out chairs are much more comfortable now, eskys keep ice longer and fridges are much more affordable, weve also got good communication with cellphones and sat-phones now.

Personally I still keep things pretty simple out bush.
My swag is better, camp lights, and a compact gas cooker for those quick meals and a personal gps just in case.
One thing hasn't changed, actuality its got much worse, people still leave broken camping equipment, rubbish and crap everywhere, its a f***ing disgrace.

And here in lies the problem with reading the forum while driving a tractor....totally misread the original post lol.
I was too young to drive but I remember the old Ford wagon and cheap tents were the go wherever we went,we didn't have swags till our teens by which time it was basically the 90s.
For what its worth I've been using pretty simple kit anyway up till earlier this year

My mate had a HR sedan "green with a white roof" rego number PIG 936
We shot more s**t out of that car than most four wheel drives will ever see.
All we had was a sporterised 303, a Boito single barrel 12 guage and a Kershaw skinning knife.
That was back in 1982.
Fast forward to June 2024 and we went to Cape York in a flash Ford Ranger towing a five and a half metre plate boat.
We had a generator and filled a tuckerbox freezer with Barra, Red Snapper and Fingermark Bream.
Took the Beretta 686 and Miroku MK70 for flying birds.
The BRNO ZKK601 and Remington model Seven took care of about 2 ton of wild cattle that we gave away to local families up there.
Times have certainly changed. It is great fun hunting out of a boat. .

I still use a lot of the stuff from the 80s Coleman lanterns and the rifles I have been told by my son I should sell some of it off the old Coleman stuff was old when I got it .
I got my first propane stove this past fall for cooking in camp and my son got a couple propane lamps they are nice to use but I hate all the small bottles that I have to

We pulled the boot lid off to stand in there to go spotlighting.
Spotlight was old car headlight on a handle...
Used a lithgow. 22 and a Winchester 32.20
This was the early 80s

Had an old Isuzu Bellett. It even had a crank start. Did quite a few bush miles. Parked it where required, and hunted on foot with either
a stirling s/auto 22 or a one shot single barrel, shotty. In the late 70's the car died.
Then got hitched.

Tent was a 2 man, esky for the milk and other luxury stihl chainsaw 034
And my rifle WAS a Remington woodsmaster semi auto 30.06 pumping
180g sierra round nose .
Did quite a few trips in to wonnangatta before it was turned into a highway

1986 we had a HQ sedan and took the boot lid off, laid a foam matress across the roof and shut the back doors to hold it in place.
That car just kept going until it spent a week underwater after a big flood. Best $200 we ever spent. I had a Franchi PA8 back then and no foxes ever got away from us. The sheep farmers loved us.

1990/91 I started. 2wd hj Holden Ute. Esky. No fridge. And if anyone had a fridge it was an Engel. Or a piece of rubbish Chess cold. We had spotlights no thermals. We were young stupid and dangerous. We had self loading rifles We ate the pigs. We stalked goats because it was interesting. Now I don’t. We made beef jerky from donkeys we shot in the Kimberley s. We caught Barra in beautiful freshwater gorges. I found aboriginal rock art I had dreadlocks. There were no exclusion fences. Hunting Access was easier
