Anschutz 1450 - Can you date one from the serial number?

Post by Guido60 » 18 Aug 2024, 9:07 pm

Good evening all.

I am a newly joined member and this is my first post.

I am inquiring if it is possible to date an Anschutz Model 1450 .22 rifle from the serial number? I can't seem to find a year of manufacture on my rifle, unlike my CZ rifles which have the year of manufacture stamped on them.

My Anschutz 1450 bears serial number 1264--- (last 3 numbers deliberately omitted by me). I believe my rifle may possibly been manufactured pre mid 70's as the Initials S and F are not stamped over the safety catch as per the 1989 owners manual which I have downloaded from the net. Instead safe is denoted by a white dot and fire by a red dot.

Also, would anyone be able to advise the principal differences between the 1450 and 1450 D? Is it mainly to do with the stock as my rifle has an uncheckered beech stock?

Thanking you in anticipation

G'day Guido60,

I have tried to date certain Anschuetz rifles I own following the instructions on the Anschuetz web-site but have had no success following the instructions given on the web-site for my centre-fires. I know they're old, but they shoot well. I'm certainly not going to pay Anschuetz to look up their records.

Good luck with your research.

Thanks Allan, NTSOG and Scott. I shall have a good look at the rifle with a magnifier - what I thought was a second proof mark may be a letter code. My vision is not the best.

Regards and thanks again to all

I have also been down this road, and my advice would be to use your time in some other endeavor. LOL.

I forget exactly why, but their records and numbers are quite different to other manufacturers. Not germanic in any way. And also we have an odd situation where some rifles were assembled in the way the local distributors wanted. Anschutz advised me of this when I asked why my rifle has a trigger fitted that is not listed as an option for my rifle.
