Unfortunately I missed an email today for ex police SIG P226 .40S&Ws in good condition for $359. For that price how can you go wrong? But they sold out fast. Oh well.

Very busy right now, recently put a review out on my YT channel for the Burris RT-6 scope.

After spending what seems like endlesss hours sitting in the frost, dozing, dribbling on myself, etc, with no bastard pigs in sight, I find they are now counting coup on me.

One has parked a turd at the front gate of the house yard.

As to the itinerant porcine excreter, I'm getting a trail cam, I'll find out their timetable and routes to and fro.

Then I shall await their return, accompanied by my trusty friend, Herr Brenneke.

In the absence of the cam, I gave 8 rabbits the good news.

Not today but yesterday. Went bowhunting rabbits both before work and after work. Plenty starting to get around. Unfortunately the phrase " missed by this much " is a good descriptor of my efforts lol.
And before OB says it,bowhunting isn't banned yet in SA, still got till the start of December

Them little buggers are tricky with the trad bow!

Had a bit of a play around with pouring some soft plastics. I had some scrap aluminium from a job at work that got junked, so I grabbed it to try the screw holes, and then have a go at machining up some more usable molds. Can see why people like using it, they just fall out after cooling  It also gave me a few ideas on how to make some easy 3 part molds for various tails. These are about 2" long.

Renewed my license today, was interested to see that it stated a minimum of 2ha for a valid reason in VIC, can't remember seeing a defined size when I applied originally years ago (not that it would matter to me anyway at the moment).

Did some short range work inside with the air rifle, playing around with different holds and pellets after moving a few things around. Feel much more confident taking it outside to stretch the legs on paper now.

They can be. Will confess I'm reasonably pleased with my shooting, and with my bow set up. 70lb and 585gn arrows, fly sweet and bow is nearly silent, rabbits don't even try to jump the string. Only a matter of time before I start scoring hits.

Decided to start the annual firewood haul.
Took the trailer out this aft and got back just on dusk with 4.5 ton of Ironbark in log form.
Back out for another two loads tomorrow if I get an early start. :D

Went deer hunting with my lad. We were stealth incarnate but all we seen was birds, roos, and the neighbours Angus bull roaming where it wasn't meant to be. However,we're pretty certain we heard the deer in the scrub, and we found fresh tracks. Was a great morning.
Then went and helped the missus move some stuff into her new rental, then spent a couple of hours mowing my mates lawns in preparation for their return from holidays next week.
Might go fishing this arvo....

Went for a look at a Cowboy Action shoot, was good fun.
One guy was shooting a pair of blackpowder .44-cal Walker revolvers :-)

Yesterday I set some gongs up in the bush for a mate to have a play on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGFzS2J9emM
Eight 120mm gongs from about 15m out to about 35m, then a pair of 150mm gongs out around 40m to 45m. And I put them behind the bushes to make them a little more challenging.

Yesterday I went for a bit of a walk to track down some goats with a big loop up and across the main ridge. Found I'm still often looking at things with a bowhunters eyes, walked up one ridge thinking it would give me a good chance and spotting animals then making a plan to stalk in before realising I could just pull up, find a branch and shoot from ~100m away

Saw some old sign, but nothing of any kind to get excited about until I turned for home. Rounding a small bend in the creek, I saw the back half of a black goat up the hill above me, luckily she was facing away from me so I dropped down behind a busted off stump which gave a perfect rest for a 80m shot. She must have heard me break a branch as she stopped behind a tree for a bit before turning and feeding away. A quick shot put a 150gr corelokt through the shoulders, blowing out a heap of ribs and leaving a 6" hole in the offside shoulder. There were bits of rib strewn all across the hill behind her, and I'm surprised she managed to take one step before going down. Knocked off the two back legs and nearside shoulder, though she was so young and small it was hardly worth it.

Then went and sat over a patch of bracken I'd jumped a hind and foxes out of before, but the only excitement was me sitting on an ants nest :o

Sounds like the fallow i recently shot with the 35 whelen, bits of bone and flesh sprayed everywhere behind the hit site, all over the tree she was standing in front of,everywhere. Have never seen carnage like it excepting shooting rabbits with high powers

Re: What did you do today?

Had a pretty busy three days. Rose and I, with three other Landcare members spent Friday planting seedlings and replacing tree guards on a Landcare site in the bush. A very steep slope so our feet and ankles were aching when we got home. At least we only had a couple hundred seedlings to carry down the hill on a litter, and a carrying pole with tree guard stakes. Sad to find that hundreds of last year's tree guards had been flattened by cows, which aren't supposed to be in the bush. Luckily a good percentage of the trees were able to be stood up and reguarded and should survive okay. It just makes a lot of extra work for us. We'll go in again later this week to put more seedlings in and see if the bloody cows have been back. Then Saturday we went out to Sale to watch an IPSC match, followed by a Cowboy Action match. Sunday we went to Warragul for another Cowboy Action match. The basic Cowboy matches use four guns, two revolvers, a lever rifle and a double coachgun. This seems to me to already be beyond the abilities of the average "cowboy", I doubt very many would have lugged all that steel around. They also shoot a "Pat Garrett" match, essentially the same but adding a second lever-rifle, in a rifle chambering, like .45-70 or .30-30. This is more hardware than anybody can reasonably carry so it takes two trips to get your firearms into position. But it's very apparent that these cowboys know how to have fun, so Rose and I will both be getting involved in that :-)

If you haven't been to see a Cowboy match I'd recommend getting along to one for a look. At its basics they shoot the same sort of thing every time so there's no great variety, but they switch it around by complicating the order the steels need to be shot in, and it's all shot on the clock. The fastest "sweep" we've seen so far is five steel plates (400mm square I think) about three metres in front of the table and you have to put four bullets on each plate from two revolvers (5rds each) and the rifle (10rds), then finish off by dropping two steel poppers with the coachgun - all done in about twelve seconds or so. When they add the second rifle it's usually to put about six rounds onto a plate maybe 30-40m away.

The guys at Sale also did a shoot where they have five 150mm steel squares about 40m away and you put two rounds on each with the rifle. That's more the sort of thing I practice a lot at so that does appeal to me, but apparently it's not SASS-sanctioned, it just adds some fun. They finished the stage with the coachgun dropping a popper which kicked a drink can about fifteen feet into the air to be hit with your second round.

It's almost like the actual shooting is an afterthought :-)

A mate picked up a pair of lever rifles on Monday, a Henry .22LR and a Chiappa .357 so he came over yesterday and we spent a few hours in the bush here shooting steels. Then I stripped and cleaned my Henry to show him how to do his when he's ready. I've had mine out in the rain a bit recently so it's well overdue for a clean. I was intending to get out again today for more practice but the weather here is just horrendous today. I hope it settles tonight as we're going bush to plant more seedlings tomorrow.

Over the weekend rather than today..

Re-built the piston on my air rifle and picked up some heavier pellets to try. Seems to shoot quieter with new seal and more-so with the heavier pellets. I shot a rabbit last w/e, so hope to try it out again on some more bunnies.

Rolled a couple of furled leaders to try for the upcoming trout opening next w/e. Tried impregnating one with wax for a floater, and the other with sinky leader stuff to make a sinker. Have made a few in the past and had forgotten how good they are, so hopefully help with the accuracy on the stream as well.
