Always positively identify your target.

I guess it could be self inflicted or failure to identify the target. Either way it's sh1t.

Thanks Charles. Can't say I know him. Been 5-6 years since I've been hunting the Noojee area.

Hope his family is coping OK.

Do you have any idea what the circumstances were?

Most likely shot by 1 of his hunting companions, always wear the right gear and identify your game, still 1 of the safest past times in Oz

Agree.

Rumour has it that it was a self-inflicted accident.

It serves no purpose to speculate on what might have happened.
Nor is it advisable to use an oxymoronic statement that it (might have been) a self-inflicted accident.
Self-inflicted - NOT an ACCIDENT.

"Self-inflicted" only suggests suicide.

Self-inflicted simply means not inflicted by somebody else, it can still be accidental.

I think "oxymoronic" is a bit rough.

I don't think arguing about the semantics of a term is appropriate in a situation with so much weight.

Unless there's any official version of events getting around, the right thing to do is be respectful and move on.

It's a tragedy either way. Feel for any family or friends, and the first responders.

Known a few blokes over time has firearms accidents and managed to test bullets out on themselves. Self infected can absolutely not be intentional.
I think all this speculation is doing nobody any good.
