How to post on You Tube

Post by NTSOG » 17 Oct 2024, 10:29 am

G'day,

I wish to post a clip of a ewe, her new-born twins, a fox and a 50gr. .222 Rem. round at long range that was quite interesting in terms of the behaviour of the late fox.

Where is the best source of guidance about attempting such a post? I know a number of people, especially mchughcb whose videos I enjoy watching, post clips, but I haven't a clue as to where and how to begin.

Any advice will be welcome.

From a phone or a computer?
I only post from the computer.
Go to any Youtube page, top right corner of the page is an icon of a movie camera with a + inside it, click that.

That brings down a short menu list, click "Upload Video".

That brings up a screen - click "Select files".

Select the videos you want to upload and it starts uploading them. There is an editing screen that comes up that lets you select some properties for the video, make it public, private or unlisted. A little while later it should be uploaded, but it'll spend a little time checking the file. Then it's on your page so your subscribers will get a message telling them you uploaded a video. Otherwise you'll have to select the link and send that anybody you want to show it to or post it online somewhere, like here or Facebook.

I would think uploading directly from a phone will run along similar lines.

Thanks for that BR. That appears much simpler than I thought it would be. I'm using my laptop computer. My fingers are too clumsy for any fancy work on a 'phone. I'll have a play for a while as we're copping a thunderstorm at the moment and I am averse to lightning.

Ripper BR! I got it sorted though I'm still not sure how. Many thanks.

I will post the video on the fox pages immediately.

G'day BLR243,

To add insult to injury my younger brother is a brilliant self-taught computer programmer and would laugh at my total confusion.

I am generally pretty inept on the computer but YT have made this side of it pretty intuitive I think.
I used to edit my racing videos with Movie Maker (I think) but I don't have anything nowadays. If I want to crop a video now I find the simplest way is to record a screenshot of the part I want :-)

Be aware, when you open your "channel" to see your videos, if you have them unlisted or private they won't be on the list, only your public videos are there. You have to click "Manage your Videos" to bring them up and then can select the share link to send them to people.

Blade covered it pretty good. Youtube is pretty efficient and user friendly when it comes to uploading videos. It only gets more complicated when you are like me and dealing with monetization requirements and affiliate links and such stuff and also doing things like your own custom thumbnails.

There are some simple video editing programs out there. I use Microsoft Clipchamp which is a little buggy but it works. You will find as you make more videos, especially if you want folks to watch them, that you will want to edit out dead air and other non essential gaps to whatever story you are telling. Most of these simple editing programs will allow you to easily cut out sections with a click of a mouse button and also paste video clips together or add audio and such.

Having a play with this Clipchamp and can't make any sense of it. I've worked out how to trim it to the 35 seconds I want in the middle of the 29 minute video, but I can't find any way to save it. When I tell it to upload it to Youtube or save it to my drive it saves a 29 minute video that is all blank except for the 35 seconds in the middle of it.

Somehow you are keeping some portion of the audio or video that is the original length. In other words you have not removed the gap you created before and after the clip. On the different bars on the bottom of your screen for the video clips, audio clips(if you separate out audio or add music), you will probably see a trash can and if you click it you can delete that gap or delete all gaps. Above the bars and the timeline you should see the overall length of the video and once you delete all gaps it should be a 35 second video. If you see 29:00.02 or whatever, you are doing it wrong.
