Nice Pete! One you shot yourself?

After reading the positive responses here and elsewhere for the weihrauch 97k I paid for one yesterday in .177 so just waiting on arrival/PTA now. Was a little bummed as I missed on a 2nd hand by less than a day, and when I heard of the price of the new shipment I was reconsidering. Managed to locate what must be old stock given the price compared to what it will be. Reading some of the UK forums in particular, there seems to be a heap of tuning and other mods, as well as aftermarket gear available to get the extra bit of performance out of it so looking forward to a bit of tinkering in the future

Took my daughter for a walk last w/e for a bit of a bo-peep for some wildflowers etc. and came across a pair of nannies with young kids on the other side of the deep gully maybe 80m away. This is the second pair of nannies with kids I've come across recently so some more ingredients to grow up and be chased around

Unfortunately not mate,I got them.cheap from a tanner mate.

I couldn't sleep last night so today I went in to work before daylight and went looking for deer. Then after work I went to try and sight in Jemima,my 36 cal, for conicals. Couldn't get a decent group so I just sighted in my round ball load which should emulate a 22 mag in power, maybe a bit more perhaps. I waa hoping to get the conicals working as I absolutely believe they'd take down a fallow deer, they pretty much emulate a 357 magnum load

I just christened my new trap gun. I’m new to shotgunning but fell head over heels in love with it a few months ago. I’ve only shot rifles until now and once i learned to shoot with instinct i was smoking clays. I had started pistol shooting again recently but find myself more excited about shotgunning!

Went and shot machine guns yesterday for my birthday. I shot 12 guns plus some bonus guns. I shot a suppressed Brugger and Thomet TP9, Tavor, AUG, short Yugo AK in 5.56, a German MP40 from the war, a M3 Grease Gun from WW2 also, HK 53, H&K 36K, H&K MP5 SD, Vietnam era M16A1, M1919 belt fed, M249 SAW belt fed, etc. Also shot a few bonus guns, an M1 Garand, a suppressed .22 pistol, and a 1911 pistol.

Good fun of course and I took a new Sony camera and set it up on a tripod and the footage looks good. I also have cell phone footage too. All will be uploaded to Youtube in time.

We've been flat out for a while so it was nice to finally get to spend a few hours shooting with a mate today. Even got the muzzleloader out and made some smoke :-)

Yes it does!

But look eventually I will upload all the videos to Youtube for folks to enjoy. I'll roll the videos out over time, maybe 1 a week. Right now I'm pretty buried 7 days a week in videos. I do video content for Amazon now also and in September I did almost 150 videos for products, it was pretty crazy.

Got a phone call today that the PTA had gone through and was ready to pick up. Bugger me, less than 9 days from payment to pickup including shipping!

First impressions are really good. Shot a handful of pellets through it to make sure everything was working as it should before dropping on a Tasco 3-7x30 as it's all I have on hand for the moment. Will be lining up something a little better, but this will do for the moment while I tinker a bit more with the Gamo in preparation for a tune on the 97k. Would love to be able to justify a thermal, but that ain't happening at the moment.

Top was off hand with the scope. Dropped 30 clicks to single shot. Dropped another 30 clicks and put 5 through a proper clover leaf all in 3 holes. Sure, only 8m or so but brand spanking new, cheapo pellets to run it in and off wobbly shooting sticks - the ol' gamo couldn't do that on a it's best day with it's favourite pellets!

So, looking for ideas on a scope. Not too fussed with the AO on the tasco, makes it much thicker (my x32 AO is the same diameter as the x40 Nikko) and something else to shift/get wrong in the moment. Something like a 2-7 x 40, don't want to go too much bigger in objective lens as the height it is now is as high as I'd like. It doesn't help having a skinny face sometimes :(

I'd been meaning to build a little 22LR "bunny shoot" target frame and had the day free so I made one up and took it out to test it with the 22 Brno I inherited with the other rifles.

Safe to say it likes old the PMC Zappers from Korea, might have to try and find some more. 10 shot group @ 65m (as per google). I really should get a rangefinder.

Re: What did you do today?

Headed out to the olds on sunday night with the 97k and managed to head shoot a rabbit kitten at 25m. Was pretty happy with that, now to find a pop up blind so I can sit anywhere along the fence line and wait for them to stick their heads up.

Today I managed an early mark and decided to duck out and grab the game cam I'd hung over a gully top that looks to be getting a lot of activity. I tossed up with taking the 30-06 and the air rifle for a bit more practice in the bush and decided in the end to go armed ready for any possibility. After parking the car I had about a 150-200m walk into the gully head through some open forest with patches of thick brush underneath. The camera was on the far side of a Y junction, so as I made my way across the first little gut I stopped and gave a couple of quick toots on the sambar call. I'd busted a heap of deer out of this vicinity and it looked like good bedding country. I went to take a step and was immediately honked on the other side of the gully back towards the road. I quickly blew out a couple of calls and scanned the brush, picking up a pair of ears and some movement which turned out to be mumma sambar who took off almost immediately followed by a calf. The honking kept ringing, so I kept scanning and picked up a young hind in the brush. Quickly sinking to my arse, I took a bead with off my knees and slid a 168gr TSX in a factory round into the chamber and my ear buds into place. The hind took a few steps and as she came into a clear space with a safe shot about 70m away, I blew again and she stopped scanning around looking for the source of the noise. With the crosshairs on the centre of her shoulder I took the shot and she bolted with that serious hurt look. Flicking the earbuds out to listen, I heard a bit of crunching then a loud crash and silence. Down or out of the postcode?

I decided to let her lie for a bit made my way over to pick up the camera before returning to the area she was standing. Picking up the tracks, I followed them downhill before she veered off the game trail she was on onto a smaller one going up hill. Uh oh!

Another 20m or so on I saw a dark shape on the downhill side of the trail and confirmed it was a deer down  On the uphill side, a small sapling had a large spray of blood, but other than that there was only a few drops that I could find, despite the two holes and large pool of blood where she lay.

Wouldn't have wanted the shot placement any further back, there was a bit of dark blood indicating liver hit. Grabbing the knife and game bag I'd thrown in the bag I got to work only 50-60m away from the road I'd just driven along minutes before. A round trip of about 200m from the car (ignoring my detour for the camera). Gotta be pleased with that :drinks:
