What's people's thoughts on this rig as a long range plinker at $2360. Price seems good but can also get the same in the oryx chassis for $1300 which seems very reasonable.

Just depends if you think the extra moola of the higher-priced stock will give you any benefit in ergonomics or pose factor, or any other personal reason we like what we do. Personal likes are important too, for satisfaction.
It certainly won't make that core Howa sitting inside any more capable or accurate in a stiff alloy-bedding block stock of conventional shape.
It's really all about a stiff, stable (straight) bedding platform and the ergonomics of length of pull, cheek placement and how it sits in the bags or your bipod.

I personally very much dislike these full chassis systems, I have a few in the shed in the used "stock rack" and wish I hadn't bought them. From Rem 700's, Howa's including Mini's. The only thing going for them was an easy change to AI type magazines (except Mini), but that's a downside if you like to load your projectiles right out in a lot of cases.
JMHO.

Thanks. That's quite a different view from every YouTube video I have seen on them. But Cheers for your experience that was what I was looking for, any negative experiences. And I understand that it won't make a core Howa shoot any better but in all truth I know people with Howas and they seem to shoot fine. My thoughts if I went this way is to save the grand buy the one in the oryx chassis and start reloading as I shoot heeps. Thanks again

Here's one of Cleavers $600 308 varmint Howas in a cheaper MDT "hunter" stock.
It's got a full alloy bedding block, MDT 10-short short magazine, 20 MOA rail. It was, all up, around $1K.
I made it up to replace an old Rem 700 Police 308 that's shot 10K rounds and on its second barrel. Used only for feral, out the windows stuff.

Here's the thing it is supposed to replace. This thing has a HS Precision stock, full alloy v-block, and is for me, WAY more ergonomic than these MDT stocks.
As I mentioned, I have bought a few, had to buy buttstocks and grips extra, and yeah, just not me.
I figured this MDT "Field Stock" might be a midway option...
So, despite finishing this Frankenstein build, I won't use it.
These older-style stocks are not in fashion anymore, which is I suppose understandable because everyone wants a fully tactical look now and for some people shooting prone or off a bench instead of in the field, might be better.
Don't listen to me though, listen to what your head says.

I use Bell&carlson sporter type stocks for walk around rifles. I think they do a M40 US sniper style stock. Might be worth looking into.

Yes, I have an M40 copy B&C stock on a Howa Mini 223 Varmint and it's perfect.

Some MDT stocks that failed in the handleability test, are great stable bedding platforms however.

Hey, hope you enjoy whatever package you get mate!

You're gonna love the 300WinMag. It's still the most popular in the 300 Magnum range despite all the marketing hype and is inherently accurate. Will do everything you want it to do, and components are economical and super available.

Well I asked my local if they could match the price and turns out there is no Howa 300 winmag in stock in Australia and cleavers just leave everything on the website in stock as they don't have any either. So the local gun store owner recommend a 300 PRC because they had one in stock but wasn't in my price range. So I found a Howa 300 PRC in that same chassis for 1400$. And also was recommended to be to get a reloading kit as it's 6-8$ a shot. So I did. Was supposed to pick it all up today but been told powder is impossible to get at the moment so I have a bloody expensive paperweight and 1500$ Bux of reloading gear I can't even use. So yes I got a PRC if you want to buy it lol.....

I'm surprised you can't get powder, but primers will be difficult to get. Can you find AR2209 or AR2213SC?

He actually said he has plenty of primers. I'll have to call around but next closest shop is a 5 hour drive so will make for pretty expensive powder after I also take a day off

I'd be grabbing the primers then rather than leave them on his shelf for somebody else to grab, they might be gone by the time you need them.
The common ADI rifle powders are still in production though so I would've thought your dealer could order you some.

So this is my 300PRC 1/8.5 twist 26 inch heavy barrel.
Ended up going for a drive for powder but now I'm told plenty back in stock. Grabbed 1000 primers, 100 serrira 200 grain match Kings, brass and a reloading kit. So apart from a chrono i think I'm almost sorted to get going. It's abit daunting learning everything off YouTube but I'll get there. Cheers and thanks

I didn't realise it came with a 20 moa nightforce rail on top. Underneath is another bolted on rail. Also came with the break and a set of Hornady dies brand new and 40 spent factory cases. For 1500 delivered I think I did alright. Gota fly out tomorrow see good old grandma for a 90th but hope to be putting some down range Wednesday arvo. Cheers. Might start a new thread starting my journey into long range shooting. Because I'm Gona need help lol
