I have a 30-06 P17 with not perfect (DP) stock, always want to get a good stock for it, found one set of the timber ask price 400 dollars, it’s too expensive for me

But this target rifle just double the price compares to the stock, the barrel is in good condition everything works as they should be so I reckon it’s a bargain

Nice toy!

In 308w, much more convenient than the 30-06...

Does the 308 cycles nicely from the 30-06 magazine, though?

With that Parker Hale sight this rifle should be the hell of a shooter.

I have a P14 with the same dioptre, and I love it.
Perfect sight picture, perfect trigger, low recoil thanks to the weight and lenght.
And very accurate.

This was the load development at 50m
PPU shells, SMK, ADI 2208 from 40 to 41.4 grains

Unfortunately I was a bit too high at 100m
need to load more of the 41.1 grain.

I have an m17-7.62mm myself - it's my goto 300m prone "modified" service rifle, and like you said much cheaper and more convinient than the original aught-six configuration. Mine similarly wears a Central. The 308w cartridges are indeed short in the long magazine, but it's generally a reliable feeder, largely because of the rimless cases. The feed is nice and parallel so it seems.

I think you can do even better than that accuracy :drinks: to give you an idea of what might be capable, from an accuracy standpoint, check out a quick video of my 50m ladder testing:

haven't tried yet, feels like it shouldn't be any drama, it's decent built rifle the trigger feels really good much better than military ones, I don't think the ex owner or gunsmith will leave that kind of problem :D

My No4 Mk2 range rifle in 7.62 with PH4 adjustable sights. Very accurate rifle when shooting off the bench. I use handloads pushing 150g Hornady Interlocks.

Hummm 3 things

1) I am using an original P14 in 303 British, unlike you guys with 7.62. That should give me a bonus point !

2) I would have thought the 303 groups look quite close to yours in size - Especially the one at 41.1 grains - Interesting how the 3 handloads (40.8, 41.1 and 41.4 grains) did better than the test group with the factory PPU (top right of the target).

3) I have not shown you my joker;) see below. It's the 39.6 grains group (2208), just left of the '3'. There is a single small hole, yet there are 4 impacts in that hole! To be honest I considered it a total fluke, absolutely not doable twice. But it's the best group i have ever had without a scope!!

Interesting also, how widely different are the other groups above on that picture (39.9 grains, 40.2, and 40.5) To me this is typical of my experience with 303 British, it's a calibre that seems very sensitive to load variations. A lot more than e.g. 6.5x55.
