Used to hunt with a P14 that I had sported and later had it improved (Epps'd it) - to my disgust. The performance of the Epps put it right up there with the 30-06, but the feeding frustrations drove me up the wall and I sold it. Fitting a Boyds classic hunter stock improved the handling and feel.

Its a good caliber to hunt with, accurate enough and is effective as.

I have a dream of taking a deer with the SMLE while dressed in ANZAC gear and equipment for a few days in the bush :-)

A mate has asked me to come down to his place and bowl over a fallow for his freezer, I think it'd be cool to do it with the sporterised SMLE in .303-25, so I'm loading 50rds to do some testing tomorrow. Just finished priming, dumping powder now.

I have a 1943 Lithgow 303 with all matching numbers and someone carved JK above the trigger group. All I can think of is that it means Jap Killer and some digger put it there.

Unlikely it occured during service, defacing commonwealth property and all, you could end up in the cells. Id think not really the style of that generation anyway. I'd put it more likely down to someone later on, or a bloke called James Knox :D . Sorry who knows. not knocking the enjoyment of your gun, your guess was as good as any.

Look you are probably 99% right mate. It has an excellent bore so it's very unlikely it saw frontline service. Maybe some guard duty or something like that. But in my mind it will always mean Jap Killer haha!

The no5 jungle carbine is my go to deer rifle. Short, light, handy with amazing iron sights. I hope to take a sambar with it this year.

I hope it has ammo in because the tin is worth $80 to $100 depending on condition.

Glad I didn't buy it then, perhaps I'll make an offer if it's there next time.
