Mate of mine handled one a few weeks ago and has been on my back to get in and have a look at it. I was in the shop this morning but forgot all about it. This is the take-down one with the receiver that splits along its length with the right side plate staying with the butt stock, right?

I'm looking to shorten the Henry to be more comfortable for Rose and my mate thought the Chiappa looked suitable.

FWIW
I have just returned from the Chiappa Italy page where I learned that their LA322 has an alloy "frame". That was the last thing I was expecting, as I was looking for info on a walnut stock version.

What sort of alloy - steel, aluminium, zinc or something else?
Henry's have the zinc receiver cover.

Chiappa really are known for their repos of other rifles I have a Win 92 copy and It is really quite good and well finished I also have an original and they do look very interchangeable despite the 100+ years difference in age. Perhaps the question should be was the original any good?

I've heard good and bad stories, but you can get that with any manufacturer. The rifle is cheap enough that if it reliably lasted say ten-thousand rounds I'd reckon I'd gotten value out of it. My mate's Chiappa 92 spat the ejector spring out within the first box of ammo. The collet had broken into three pieces. The smith replaced the collet, spring, and ejector. I've heard stories about the Chiappa 1911 .22 not being very good either, but again, a cheap pistol. I believe Tasco is the distributor and I've heard lots of good stories about them supporting the rifles which is reassuring.

There is no original of the Chiappa LA322 that I know of, it's a quite unique design in a take-down .22LR. I _think_ the design _might_ allow you to pack the rifle with the tube loaded?

Regarding the design of the 1892, there are distinct differences in the internals of my Rossi and my mate's Chiappa, I don't think much of the rifles are interchangeable, replicas are more replicating the appearance and feel of the original Winchester rifle with some modifications, probably to reduce costs. Somebody that wants an original is willing to pay the price, those of us that want a cheaper replica are more accommodating of unseen differences. I have been told that some of the Ubertis are identical enough that you can swap in original parts, but I don't have two such rifles to be able to confirm that. Tucotheratt on Youtube has a video explaining why he doesn't like Ruger's Single-Action Army 1873's, the differences to the original Colt are really quite subtle but enough that he prefers the Colts.

That question has caught me out, bladeracer. The kind of alloy did not occur to me and the reference is not specific.
Sorry :unknown:

The Henry receivers are aluminium alloy, the receiver cover, the part attached to the barrel is a zinc alloy, virtually all metals used in fabrication are alloys, very few metals are used unalloyed.

I was just looking at both the Henry and Chiappa. The Chiappa is a loose copy of the Marlin 39A and like the Henry uses an alloy receiver. I bought the Henry as it just felt better.

I have tried a red dot before on a lever 22 but just couldn't get used to it. The dot just didn't enable me to shoot accurately. I have fitted a Leupold Freedom 2-7X32 rimfire scope on my daughter's Henry lever and a Vortex 2-8X32 on my son's Rossi pump. The leupold is a better scope as you would expect for the price difference but the Vortex is is fine for half the price.

I run one on the Ruger 10/22 air-rifle and it does that well, but I'm only shooting to about 10m max. I haven't found them much good on .22's but for close-range bigger targets, like pigs or deer they'd be good on heavier rifles. .22's rely on precision to kill.
