Here we go again

Guys, for those not Shooters Union members, it seems that the powers that be in Qld have a bee in their bonnets again over safe storage and compliance, and are going to put on hold youth crime, general theft and crime investigations and anti-semitism terrorism and feel the need to make sure you all have all your stuff sorted.

See Below and perhaps, just do your own audit to make sure you comply just in case:

The Queensland Police Service have announced the launch of Operation Whiskey Firestorm, described as “a high-impact statewide initiative designed to tackle the critical issue of firearm safety.”

QPS have said that as part of this, they will be “conducting extensive audits, coordinating regional operations, and working with licensed firearm owners to ensure they meet safety and ownership rules and regulations.”

The theme being touted by QPS is “Safety first, secure always”.

We are encouraging all our members to take a moment to review their secure storage facilities and ensure they are compliant – you can find the details here: https://www.police.qld.gov.au/weapon-li ... ammunition

Remember: Firearms MUST be stored unloaded, and stored separately from ammunition.

Bolt-action firearms must have the bolt removed, while other types must have the action open.

Queensland Police must make an appointment for a mutually agreeable time to inspect your firearms – they cannot (and should not) just show up at your front door.

We will keep you updated once we have more information on this latest QPS initiative and what it will mean for you as a Shooters Union member.

We cannot help but feel this is a serious waste of limited police resources, especially given the increased youth crime rate and other public safety issues (none of which relate to firearms) throughout Queensland, and are also somewhat concerned by the tone and language in the QPS press release on this initiative – we will be raising this with Police Minister Dan Purdie.

The media should really be taking the Police to task over this mismanagement of very expensive resources to achieve no purpose.

On anti-semitism

I think the Australian indigenous and middle easterners seem to be the most active in that field at the moment.

Personally, I don't hold a grudge against anyone because of what happened in my family many generations ago nor do I use my fractional percentage genetic make-up of Scottish blood to blurt out verbal diarrhoea about the wrong doings of historic rivals and invasion of lands by the English... that'd be stupid, it's ancient history.
I think some effort needs to be made in reminding people to get over it , (we said we're f***ing sorry) and to the others....leave your troubles in your home country.

Well one of the findings of the weapons licensing audit 3 years ago was lack of secure storage audits. Around 1% of people got inspected every year. Now the libs have been in power for nearly 3 months maybe they are doing this.

Also remember the time the police deleted a lot of the registey and they had to do audits again I think that was in South Australia. Maybe this has occurred haha.

According to the police website there is over 200k licensees and over 1 million registered weapons in Queensland. The inspection takes maybe half hour at the most. But the cop has to drive there. He has to organise a time and receive the weapons list from weapons licensing and do his report. So maybe 3-5 hours per inspection. To check everyone would take maybe 1 million man hours.

There was ment to be a "self audit" in South Australia of all firearms owners.
People were ment to list their firearms make models and registration numbers and submit the paperwork to SAPOL.

I'm not sure how that went, I never received the invitation to the audit :unknown:

Geeze mate, not here. Half an hour would be most appreciated.
The two that did mine last time at the farm business address had two scheduled for the day, mine was at 9am and they didn't leave until after 12 and were stressed at meeting their next appointment time.
I think I did a pretty good job at being friendly and not mentioning the obvious waste of resources as well as the disrespect and invasion of privacy towards the gun owner.

3 hours? How many guns do you own? I had 30 guns on my last inspection and it only took about half an hour. I am assuming you were chit chatting wasting time?

Old mate that did mine just read out the make and model from his IPAD and I grabbed the gun from the safes and I readout the serial number and he said yes thats right to all 30 of them.

He did not even touch one of the guns.

Yeah mate, unlike you I just waste time. It's a fault I have.

We have a few firearms too, in categories you don't have, but the number of them isn't something I need to shout from the rooftops either to boost my status.

If I need some advice in the future I'll give you a hoy mate.
