Best fox gun for 25-50 acres?

I have a 17 Hornet but I'm wondering if it's too much for smaller properties?

If so what would be the best for shooting foxes at about 80 metres.

I shoot .30-06 on properties smaller than that. Is the area heavily populated? Are there hills and valleys on the property allowing you to safely shoot into a good hillside? Is it windy?
I would think the .17 Hornet would just about be ideal for shooting foxes at close range.

Thinking lower velocity of the spectrum, If you're looking at lower velocity/trajectory with hard impact and good BC in a more modern cartridge then 300blk or 350 legend might fit the bill. Otherwise there's handgun/rifle cartridges of which there are many 9mm, 45ACP etc...

Foxes? Small block?
I reckon if you can't kill it dead with a 22LR headshot, you might practice some more.
22 WMRF is actually a completely adequate chest shooting calibre for foxes, using say, a 40gn CCI Maxi-Mag.

Even though I could shoot any calibre rifle in my farm backyard at foxes, I wouldn't ever do so. Too many sheds, machinery, vehicles, you name it. I wouldn't shoot across 50 acres if over the fence behind it wasn't my land also, with no neighbours, stock, property on it whatsoever. A 22LR is my first choice everytime then.
Too small for foxes? Absolutely not. Head shoot them if you don't have a 22 Magnum.

I would have thought down load the 17 hornet a bit ( if you reload) or 22 magnum.

22lr will do it in ideal situations but often they don't materialise.

Spotlights mate. Red eyes are a great target.
But then, how close are other people on the next blocks? I'd reckon spotlighting is dangerous-as for some in that situation, and a wind-up to the neighbours unless they are very sympathetic and trusting.
Circumstances will dictate that choice. Any close neighbours?

those are my thoughts. the go-to caliber back in the day was the 22 hornet , but at 80 meter shots the OP talks about i reckon a 22 mag should do the job without muzzle blast and no worrying about trying to find spent cases
